President Thomas to
Address Faculty, Staff
at All-Campus Meeting
LEWISTON - Lewis-Clark State President Dene Thomas will
address the campus community on Wednesday, April 3rd at 3:30 p.m. in the
Williams Conference Center. She will present a status report on the
strategic planning and organizational review processes in general and as
applied to the current budget crunch.
Thomas will go over the structure of the committees involved and the key
considerations of each. She is emphasizing that, while the long-term
organizational review process is dovetailing with planning for budget cuts
the college faces in fiscal year 2003, budget issues are not the sole
driving force.
She will summarize key issues and findings identified by both committees and
outline related goals. Thomas has stressed that this is just the “first
phase” of restructuring and that many facets of the process are still coming
together. She says several areas have yet to be addressed and plans to talk
about some of them at the meeting.
Following that, Thomas will outline the program review relative to the FY
‘O3 budget holdbacks. Her plan to date has been to distribute the pain of
cuts selectively, based on input received from divisions and other planning
units. This will be the first campus wide presentation including information
on specific cutback targets within the college.
Though faced with an extremely challenging first year as president, Thomas
has remained focused on the overall good and longevity of the college. “We
will continue to carry out our mission as a unique, vital institution in
Idaho higher education. No one else does what we do, fills the niche we
fill. We will focus on quality and not lose sight of the big picture.”
