LCSC Supporters Appreciate Governor's Budget Proposal
Governor Dirk Kempthorns budget proposal to include full funding for LCSCs activity center drew immediate praise from college administrators and staff. "With Governor Kempthornes announcement, Lewis-Clark State College is another, very large step closer to the reality of a new multi-purpose activity center for the campus," Dr. Niel Zimmerman, acting president, said Thursday. "We want to thank Governor Kempthorne for his recommendation and we want to thank all those who supported us in reaching this point."
In addition to the proposed state funding, Lewis-Clark State College has raised 1.5 million dollars for the activity over the past three years. "Community members, our legislative delegation, Foundation members, faculty and staff, alumni and students all contributed to making this possibleWe thank all of them."
The multi-purpose activity center would replace the existing gymnasium, which was constructed in 1938, and annex, built in 1909. In addition to gymnasium and locker room space, it will house classrooms and offices, and be available for certain community events. "LCSC has always been especially responsive to the needs expressed by its regional community," said Marilyn Stonebraker, LC Foundation board member and fundraising campaign chair. "The need for the center is apparent and was effectively supported by the community and the colleges constituents. We now have one more plus to offer students; one more thing added to what makes Lewis-Clark State such a great value." LCs volleyball coach, Kip Yoshimura, is happy about the prospects for the new facility, saying, "The center will be a great addition to the athletic department and to the community as whole."
Dr. Zimmerman expressed appreciation of the Governors support for needed projects at other Idaho institutions as well. "We commend the Governor for the overall support for Idaho higher education demonstrated by his budget proposal. The additional resources hes recommended will support vital actions to bolster faculty and staff salaries, and the operations of each institution."
