Administrators Asked to Pare Expenditures for FY-2001
Lewis-Clark State College administrators received a letter Wednesday, 12/20/00, from interim president, Dr. Niel Zimmerman, formally notifying them of an expected $300,000 budget shortfall. The shortfall is a result of decreased enrollment, and is anticipated to impact the college for the balance of the current fiscal year.
Administrative areas headed by the president and vice presidents will be asked to reduce operating expenditures by 6% for the remainder of FY-2001. Strategic planning, admissions and marketing are excepted, due to their importance in achieving long-range institutional goals.
The college is addressing changing enrollment factors and marketing needs in its strategic planning process. While enrollment numbers have dipped in some areas, others have increased. Dr. Zimmerman cited this as an indication of a bright future: "The college will continue to respond to the needs of students and communities it serves. LCSC offers a high quality product, one that is easily accessible and sensitive to regional needs. Accordingly, we are constantly reviewing our operations. As changes in the economy translate to changes in the job market and student objectives, we are obliged to respond."
