Class of 2002 Walks
Friday
Lewis-Clark State’s 2002 Commencement Day is this Friday. It
begins with the LCSC School of Nursing Senior Pinning Ceremony at 9:30 a.m.
at the college’s Williams Conference Center. At 11:30 a.m., the ASLCSC-sponsored
Commencement Day Barbecue takes place in the Historic Tree Grove on campus.
The commencement ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. on LCSC’s campus green east
of the library. (Inclement weather will move the event to the LCSC
Gymnasium.) President Dene K. Thomas will preside, accompanied by
dignitaries Idaho Governor Dirk Kempthorne and Idaho State Board of
Education members Blake G. Hall of Idaho Falls and Paul C. Agidius of
Moscow.
Among honors presented at the ceremony will be the President’s Award for
Excellence in Diversity and Cross-Cultural Understanding. This year’s
recipient is Kai Fong, longtime LCSC tennis coach. Three other awards will
go to outstanding 2002 graduating scholars: the Gertrude Mellen Dick Award,
the President’s Award, and The Provost’s Award will go to students who
excelled in their educational endeavors.
Presentation of President’s Medallions will be a new part of Commencement
2002. President Thomas will present these high-honor awards to individuals
whose leadership, personal energy or resources have significantly affected
or influenced LCSC over the years. This year’s recipients—the first—will be
Bill Hall, longtime Lewiston resident, editorial writer for the Lewiston
Morning Tribune, and champion for access to higher education for Idaho’s
citizens; and Judy Meyer, a North Idaho resident whose highly productive
years on the Idaho State Board of Education resulted in many improvements at
LCSC and Idaho’s other colleges and universities.
Following delivery of awards, the Class of 2002 will receive their diplomas.
President Thomas will confer the 341 academic degrees and 139 vocational
program degrees earned this year. LCSC’s faculty and staff are proud of each
and every one of these graduates and wish them good fortune.
