Annual Performance Showcases Local Talent
Danceworks, the annual spring production by dance students and choreographers from
Lewis-Clark State College, is being presented April 26-28th at the Silverthorne Theatre on
campus.
The LCSC Fine and Performing Arts Division presents the event each spring, weaving dance,
music and art together for a unique experience. Now in its thirteenth year of production,
Danceworks has been a favorite event during the Lewiston-Clarkston valleys Dogwood
Festival.
This year, Michael Pendell is the featured dancer. Michael is a 1993 graduate of Lewiston
High School who went on to pursue a career in dance in New York City. In addition to
participating in the dance program at Julliard School, he was a scholarship student at the
Alvin Ailey School and is a member of Sensedance, a New York modern dance company.
For this springs Danceworks production, Michael will perform a solo, in addition to
dancing in and choreographing a group piece.
Artwork by Lewiston resident Dale Tucker will be featured in the program as well. Dale
created the masks and shields worn by dancers performing a piece choreographed by LCSC
student Kevin Kelpe. Dale will also begin each evening by doing a drawing, on stage, each
night.
Music for Danceworks 2001 ranges from jazz, to classical, to funk. Contemporary rhythm tap
will be performed by a group from Festival Dance. Featured Guest Musician this year is
guitarist Aaron White, from the University of Idaho.
Choreographers contributing to the performance include LCSC instructors Kathryn Claassen
and Lauren Nichols, and students Kevin Kelpe, Melissa Woelfel, Lyn Culbertson, Angela
Miles, Aprilyn Rubert and Kim Cravens. Former Lewiston Civic Theatre Artistic Director
Fred Scheibe is the special Guest Choreographer.
Performances begin at 8:00 p.m. April 26, 27 and 28 in the Silverthorne Theatre on the
LCSC campus. Admission is $5.00. Tickets will be available at the door. |
