Diesel Technology Program gets Turbocharged

LEWISTON - The LCSC Diesel Power Technology Skills USA-VICA Club recently purchased a Caterpillar 3116 direct-injected, turbocharged engine from the Halton, Company in Portland, Oregon. SkillsUSA-VICA is the new name for the Vocational Industrial Clubs of America Student Organization.

The club came up with $600 for the purchase and donated the engine to the diesel technology program. Club members earned the money fundraising and made all the arrangements for purchasing and delivery from Portland.

The engine will provide valuable training opportunities for students learning diesel mechanics. Instructor Dennis Massingham said, "The Diesel Power Technology Club decided that the donation would be a great way to maintain and improve the quality of instruction in the diesel program, despite budget cuts and the lack of resources this year."
