Foundation Scholars’ Spring Social a Fun Event

On the evening of April 10, approximately 35 people including LCSC scholars, scholarship donors and Foundation Board members gathered at the home of board member Harriet Husemann to enjoy beautiful April weather, Mexican food, games, prizes, awards, and each other.

The event was the LCSC Foundation Scholars Year 2002 Spring Social, and it is part the Foundation’s Adopt-a-Scholar Program (AAS). Established in the late 1990’s, AAS allows financial supporters of LCSC a special opportunity to do more than just give money. Donors are matched up with scholars and become their “adopters”. At scheduled events such as the Spring Social and in personal ways of their own choosing, donors and scholars derive multiple benefits from becoming acquainted with each other.

The emotional support the scholars get from caring adults helps them to succeed in what can be a difficult transition from their childhood homes to the college environment. This support helps scholars maintain high grades by giving them the feeling that someone in the LCSC setting has invested in them personally and cares how they do in college.

Donors get to befriend smart, young people, enjoy socializing with the LCSC crowd and know they are supporting an institution that is integral to the identity and well-being of the Lewis-Clark Valley.

And LCSC wins, too, because when there is personal involvement, there is commitment. Donors and scholars feel connected and want to be a part of the school’s future. Truly, the Adopt A Scholar program is a triple-header winning proposition.
