LCSC Golf Takes Long Shot

LEWISTON—On Monday, April 8th during the LCSC Invitational Golf Tournament, President Dene Thomas will make an announcement regarding the future of the college’s golf program. Earlier this year, Thomas announced the elimination of golf and other programs as part of the college’s response to dramatic cuts in state funding. Golf is an NAIA sport at LCSC.

Since then, golf team supporters have been quietly working on ways to maintain the program. Early on, they proposed raising money locally to keep the program afloat and Thomas agreed to consider that option—if supporters could guarantee funding for at least three years. Anything less than that would leave student players and the college facing the same contingency each year, she explained.

Thomas will review results of their fund raising efforts this weekend and will make her decision by Monday. The president and golf team supporters will gather at 10:30 a.m. in the clubhouse at the Lewiston Country Club Golf Course. Thomas will speak with golf team members, who are hosting and playing in the tournament, at 7:00 a.m. at the clubhouse, before play begins.
