2000 Who/What: Lewis-Clark State College Mock Trial When: November, 2000 Where: Lewis-Clark State College Contact: Gene Straughan, 799-2821 LCSC Mock Trial Team Represents Idaho in Midwest Competiton The Lewis-Clark State College Mock Trial Team traveled to Minnesota earlier this month to compete in a mock trial tournament against schools from across the country. The team competed in its first-ever tournament at McAllister College in St. Paul, November 17th through the 19th. In January, they will compete again at the Spokane Invitational tournament, followed by a trip to Ogden, Utah, for a national qualifying tournament. The Lewis-Clark State team is the only mock trial team from a higher education institution in Idaho, and one of only four teams in the entire Northwest region. "When our team competes, we are representing the state of Idaho," team member Aaron Fox said. Gene Straughan, an associate professor in the colleges Social Sciences division, is the teams coach and advisor, traveled with the students. Approximately 20 schools competed at the McAllister tournament, where nine LCSC students and their coach and advisor presented a civil case four different times. Each team presents the same case all season. "We represented the defense side twice and the plaintiff side twice," Fox continued. In a mock trial competition, there are three witnesses, three attorneys and timekeeperwhich meant L-C team members had to take on dual roles in the competition. |
