Native American Awareness, Women's History
Events Continue

The slate of events recognizing contributions and celebrating the gifts of women and Native Americans continues this week. Native American Awareness Week features renowned motivational speakers Howard Rainer and Lisa Tiger, followed by Don Sampson of the Columbia Basin Intertribal Fish Commission and Aaron Miles, Director of the Nez Perce Tribe's Natural Resources Department, both speaking about cultural and environmental issues. Women in leadership roles within tribal government and communities are represented in the final presentation of the day by Marjorie Zarate, Executive Director for the Clearwater Casino and Julie Kane, from Nez Perce Tribe's Office of Legal Counsel.

Thursday begins with "Looking Toward the Lewis Clark Bicentennial," and closes with a friendship banquet at 7:00 p.m. in the Williams Conference Center. For more information on presenters and events, visit http://www.lcsc.edu/naw/calendar.html.

Women's' History Month began this week featuring LCSC President Dene Thomas and Nursing Division Chair Donna Brandmeyer. Thursday brings a noon parenting series to the forefront, as Drew Bledsoe’s "Parenting With Dignity,” is offered. The series consists of three one-hour sessions, with group discussion following each video. Rules one and two of the first video, “Five Rules for Parenting,” airs Thursday. Rules three, four and five will air next Thursday, March 14.

On Thursday, March 21, the video will be “Reasons Why Punishment Doesn’t Work”. Monday the 18th will feature a video about gender differences in leadership roles: `Invisible Rules: Men, Women and Teams`. Julie Blohm-Grinolds, Coordinator of the Center for New Directions will host the presentation..

Lewis-Clark State annually hosts events related to both topics, with featured speakers and presentations.
