Who/What: Office and Business Technology Students Receive Honors at State Conference for Business Professionals

OBT Students take Top Honors at Leadership Conference

Eight Lewis-Clark State College students took 14 top honors at the Business Professionals of America State Leadership Conference in Boise on March 2.

Those honored were: Deanna Gibler: 1st place in Fundamental Accounting and top honors in Financial Math and Analysis; Megan Butler: 1st in Spreadsheet Applications and Analysis, 2nd place in Fundamental Word Processing Skills, and 4th place in Desktop Publishing; Janell Miller: 4th place in Fundamental Word Processing Skills; Mandy Fowler: 3rd place in Fundamental Word Processing Skills and 3rd place in Legal Office Procedures; Wes Small: 3rd place in C++ Programmer; Jeff Wykoff: 2nd place in C++ Programmer and 4th place in Verbal Communications--Prepared II; Russ Lohman: 1st place in C++ Programmer; and Kristi Lame: 2nd place in Keyboarding Production and 2nd place in Verbal Communications--Extemporaneous II. These students represent the following LCSC programs: Office Technology, Paralegal, Bookkeeping, Web Development, Information Systems Analysis, and Business Administration.

The students will join over 5,000 other conference attendees from across the nation to participate in national level business skills competitions, workshops, general sessions, and national officer candidate campaigns and elections at the National Leadership Conference in Anaheim on May 9-13. The conference will be a culmination of a business workforce education and training that members of the local chapter of Business Professionals of America at Lewis-Clark State College have received. Their advisor, Rhonda Combs, will accompany them.

Business Professionals of America is a national organization for high school and college students preparing for careers in business and office occupations. The organization’s activities and programscomplement classroom instruction by giving students practical experience through application of the skills learned at school. Business Professionals of America acts as a cohesive agent in the nation-wide networking of education, business and industry, and is contributing to the preparation of a world-class workforce through the advancement of leadership, citizenship, technological, and academic skills.
