Teleconference on Responsible Research Practices

On September 13th, from 9:45am-1:00pm LCSC will have a satellite downlink to a conference "Conducting Research Responsibly." The conference will be broadcast in the Education Technology Studio in the Library Building at LCSC/Lewiston. Lunch will be served.

This year, the National Institute of Health (NIH), Office of Human Research Protection (OHRP), and Office of Research Integrity (ORI) required training for personnel participating on NIH and other Public Health Service grants and contracts. The National Institute of Health has training requirements for research involving human subjects, and the ORI requires that all research personnel be trained by October 1, 2003.

The teleconference will explore 4 of the 9 core areas included in the Public Health Service's definition of responsible research. They are: human subjects research, conflict of interest, research misconduct, and mentorship. These core areas are critical considerations for all institutions concerned with responsible research.

The conference will provide a forum for defining these core areas and practical suggestions for developing training programs that comply with the NIH, OHRP, and ORI policies. Two scenarios and associated panel discussions will be made available to campuses wishing to incorporate teleconference material in their institution's RCR training program.
