College, Community Gather to Honor the Zimmermans

Lewis-Clark State College staff, faculty and administrators gathered Tuesday, June 12, at the Lewiston Center for Arts and History, to recognize the contributions of Dr. Niel Zimmerman and his wife Judy.

Dr. Zimmerman has served as LCSC interim president for the past year. Dr. Dene Thomas is expected to assume the role of president in July.

In addition to their work at the college, the Zimmermans have been especially active in the community. Numerous community members, business leaders and political representatives attended the event, along with students and alumni of the college.

The Zimmermans were commended for their hard work and many activities, both on and off campus. In tribute, they received a commemorative "Discovery" Medallion, with an accompanying plaque inscribed: "To Niel and Judy Zimmerman, President." The couple also received a Pendleton blanket in the Nez Perce "Friendship" design, reflective of the school's relationship with Nez Perce Tribe and the Zimmermans' commitment to diversity on campus and in the community.

A return to their home in Cheney, some fishing and general relaxation are next on the agenda for the couple. Dr. Zimmerman will conclude his duties as interim president June 30.
