Erdman named Director of Planning, Research & Assessment
Howard Erdman, who has been involved in Institutional Research and Planning at three institutions, has been named the Director of Planning, Research & Assessment at Lewis-Clark State College, LCSC President Dene K. Thomas has announced.
Erdman, who currently is Coordinator in the Office of the Provost at Washington State University, will begin his new duties on Nov. 27. Erdman replaces Chet Herbst, who became LCSC’s Vice President for Administrative Services earlier this fall.
As Director of Planning, Research & Assessment at LCSC, Erdman will oversee the college’s strategic planning, assessment, accreditation process and institutional data. He will oversee a staff of two and report directly to President Thomas.
“I have followed the progress of this college since moving to the area and consider it to be an outstanding institution,” Erdman says. “The reputation of its programs and leadership is exemplary. This is particularly noteworthy in a region where there is such significant competition. Being selected to join the ranks of Lewis-Clark State College is a genuine honor and I look forward to becoming a member of the team.” Erdman has been working in the Office of the Provost at WSU since 2003 and also became an affiliate associate professor of Higher Education and Leadership at WSU earlier this year. His duties at WSU include providing analysis and support for the Provost’s Office, including the collection of data which links instructors to courses.
He has served as Director of Institutional Research and Planning at Navarro College in Texas (2001-03) and at El Paso Community College (1999-2001). Previously, he was an Economics and Business instructor at Southwest Texas Junior College (1977-99) and was an adjunct accounting instructor at Sul Ross State University (1991) and an adjunct economics instructor at the University of Houston’s downtown campus (1977).
Erdman received a Bachelor of Arts in Economics at the University of Houston in 1974 and later received his Master’s degree there in 1976. He did postgraduate work in Business and Economics at Sul Ross State (1982-88), and accounting and economics at Houston (1989). He received a Master’s of Professional Accountancy (MPA) from the University of Texas-San Antonio (1995) and earned his Doctorate in Education from Texas A&M-Commerce (2002).
Erdman’s wife, Phyllis, is the Chair of the Educational Leadership and Counseling Psychology Department at WSU.
