LCSC to turn part of 4th St. into parking
The Lewiston City Council approved unanimously to allow Lewis-Clark State College to turn two blocks of Fourth Street into a parking lot.
Fourth Street, between Eighth and 10th avenues, will be turned into a parking lot and will discourage through traffic.
The college also plans to vacate Ninth Avenue from Fourth Street west to the alley. A cul-de-sac from Third Street to the alley will be built.
The state has agreed to spend up to $500,000 on renovating the street to create 122 parking slots, an increase of about 74 from the current parallel parking.
The tentative plan is to eliminate trees and green strips along Fourth Street to widen the 40-foot right of way to 60 feet. Two-way traffic would be maintained and the parallel parking would be replaced with perpendicular spaces down each side of the street.
