Economic profile is set for April 19
The fourth annual “Measuring the L-C Valley: A Demographic and Economic Profile,” featuring Spokane economist Shawn O’ Higgins, will be held April 19 at the Clarkston Quality Inn.
The 90-minute event starts at noon and is sponsored by the Lewis Clark Valley Advertising Federation and the Lewis-Clark State College Business Division. Cost of the event is $15 for LCVAF members and students, and $20 for non-members. Persons attending are asked to RSVP by noon on April 18 by contacting Michelle Ralston at 743-0633 ext. 208.
Higgins holds a number of senior management positions with Cowles Publishing Company. He is director of Marketing and Sales for The Spokesman-Review; president and Chief Operating Officer of New Media Ventures, Inc., (which includes among its holdings the Spokane Journal of Business and the spokane.net online portal), and chairman and CEO of Print Marketing Concepts, Inc., a Houston-based subsidiary that sells advertising and production services to the American newspaper industry.
Higgins is best known locally for his annual economic forecasts on Spokane and Inland Northwest areas since 1983, and for his book on the local economy entitled “Measuring Spokane: A Numerical Look at a City and its Region.”
During his presentation, Higgins will discuss:
§ Trends rends, long-term and short, in the Lewis-Clark regional population, including changes in age, income, and household size.
§ How retail dollars are spent in the market, and how spending patterns have changed.
§ How the Lewis-Clark economy relates to the Inland Northwest economy.
§ How people can use this information in their business and advertising planning.
§ How economic activity in the Lewis-Clark region impacts the counties around, and how economic activity in the Spokane-Coeur d'Alene region impacts the Lewis-Clark area.

Higgins is an internationally recognized speaker on the topics of media, marketing, and the internet. He has addressed audiences in 22 countries on six continents. He is also the author or co-author of eight books dealing with business, art, local history, and marketing, as well as the “Management Goes to the Movies” series of training guides.
