Fromm to give reading at LCSC Center tonight

Pete Fromm will be reading from his creative prose on Monday, April 23, at 7:30 p.m., at the Lewis-Clark State College Center for Arts and History, located at 415 Main St. in Lewiston.

Fromm’s reading is sponsored by LCSC, the LCSC Humanities Division, and “Talking River,” LCSC’s student literary publication. The reading is free and open to the public.

Fromm is a five-time winner of the Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association Award for his novels, “As Cool as I Am” and “How All This Started”; his short story collections, “Dry Rain” and “Night Swimming”; and, the memoir “Indian Creek Chronicles”. Fromm is a resident of Great Falls, Mont., where he lives with his family.

Acclaimed writer Mark Spragg, author of “Where Rivers Change Directions”, has noted that Fromm “writes with such quiet power, such honest authority, that by the end of “As Cool as I Am”, I felt I had experienced something inevitable, true and absolutely rare —something like an eclipse. I felt altered. As though I might never witness it again.”

Judy Blunt, who recently gave the Wallace Stegner Lecture at LCSC, has said that “As Cool As I Am” is a story “so rich and deep and real that it lingers like a memory long after the last page is turned. Pete Fromm has an amazing gift for creating characters we think we know. You'll not soon forget Lucy, the proud, tough Hi-Line teen who speaks this story. Her voice is haunting, her story is, by turns, starkly painful and outrageously funny. Weeks after finishing this book, I find myself thinking of her, wishing her well.”

About Fromm’s book “Indian Creek Chronicles”, Montana author Rick Bass has said, “This is a lovely book about honesty, about clear-eyed seeing, and clear-eyed feeling. Each reader will come away from reading this book with a favorite scene that he or she will remember forever.”

Fromm is a delightful and funny reader who keeps the audience engaged. Books will be available for purchase at the Center for Arts and History, and Fromm will be happy to visit with audience members and to autograph his books.
