LCSC to hold GED graduation on Friday, May 4

Lewis-Clark State College will hold its General Education Development graduation on Friday, May 4, at 7 p.m. in the LCSC Activity Center.

This year, 57 students earned their GED certificates from LCSC sties in Craigmont, Grangeville, Kamiah, Kooskia, Lapwai, Lewiston, Moscow, Orofino, and Weippe.

This ceremony culminates a rigorous 7˝-hour battery of exams that measure the academic skills and concepts of a traditional high school education. Tests cover the core curriculum areas of writing, social studies, science, literature and the arts, and mathematics. They also measure an adult’s ability to understand and apply information, evaluate, analyze, draw conclusions, solve problems and express ideas and opinions in writing.

Donna Callahan, Director of Adult and Family Education at LCSC, will welcome graduates, their families and friends following the traditional processional and National Anthem. LCSC President Dene K. Thomas, Dean of Community Programs, Kathy Martin, and Idaho State Sen. Joe Stegner will provide greetings. The Lewiston Rotary Club will present $1,000 scholarships to one exceptional GED graduate.

Two students will share in giving the commencement address.

Following the commencement ceremony, a reception is planned for graduates, their families and friends.
