Five LCSC students place at DEC national conference
Five of eight Lewis-Clark State College students participating in the Delta Epsilon Chi International Career Development Conference placed in their events, including four who placed in the top three in the nation.
The conference, which was held April 21-24 at Orlando, Fla., drew more than 1,800 students and 400 advisers from across the United States. Students participated in workshops and had the opportunity to attend career fairs.
Delta Epsilon Chi is an international organization for college students. DEC program engage students from a variety of educational disciplines, while maintaining a strong focus on business-related areas such as marketing, management and entrepreneurship.
LCSC’s Adam Marshall, of Clarkston, and Anna Hiebert, of Grangeville, competed together in Business Ethics and finished second overall. Also, Justin Klingsmith, of Clarkston, placed in the Top 10 in the written exam for Retail Management.
Also at the conference, the National Management Institute held competitions. The NMI typically includes presentations by industry professionals, a case study analysis, an off-site experience with one or more local organizations and a team presentation. ESPN The Magazine and ESPN Fundraising Program was the focus of the 2007 NMI.
Sam Anastasi, of Nezperce, joined three students from other institutions to finish first. Each member of the first-place team received $250. Seth Smith, an LCSC student from Culdesac, was a member of the second-place team.
Also attending the conference were Gabby Corner, of Moscow, LaRissa Smith, of Lewiston, and Kendal Neill, of Weiser.
