Faculty and staff award winners

Matthew Johnston, a professor in the Natural Sciences Division, and Mary Lou Robinson, a professor in the Nursing & Health Sciences Division, were honored during the Lewis-Clark State College Faculty/Staff Recognition Social, held Wednesday at the Williams Conference Center.

Johnston received the H.L. Talkington Faculty Achievement Award for the 2006-07 academic year. The award recognizes "exceptional devotion to achieving a quality learning experience, maintaining high standards of rigor and currency of course content, exhibiting a spirit of academic collegiality, and making a direct impact on students."

Robinson was honored with the LCSC Foundation Award, which is chosen by the LCSC Foundation Board. The award honors "teaching excellence, recognized by students and colleagues; contributions to the profession through scholarly activities, and other contributions to the college and community."

Three LCSC professors were honored with the President's Award for Outstanding Teaching. Jacob Hornby, an assistant professor in Natural Sciences, Susan Odom, a professor in Nursing & Health Sciences, and J.R. Seaman, an associate professor in Social Sciences, were honored by LCSC President Dene Thomas. The award is for "effectiveness of teaching, quality of scholarly or creative production, and level of service to college or community."

Kristin Ungos, of Nursing & Health Sciences, won the Adjunct Faculty Award for Teaching Excellence. The award, which draws nominations from colleagues and students, honors an adjunct faculty member who has taught for at least two consecutive or three of the last five semesters.

Also honored was Bill Hayne, Director of Field Experience in the Education Division at LCSC. He received the President's Award for Excellence in Diversity and Cross-Cultural Understanding. The award honors someone who makes exceptional contributions to multicultural recruitment and retention efforts and increase multicultural understanding at LCSC.

Ryan Gill, the associate registrar at LCSC, received the Professional Staff Award for Excellence, while the Classified Employee of the Year Award went to Jennifer Weeks, ad administrative assistant in the Business Technology & Service Division.
