Emerich and Hennigan move to Community Programs
In a move to help academics be the driving force behind online education, both Deb Emerich and Tom Hennigan are being moved from IT Media Services to Community Programs and will relocate their offices in the Sam Glenn Complex.
LCSC President Dene K. Thomas announced the move Tuesday, saying that instructional support for the online classes is now aligned with Community Programs. Emerich and Hennigan both offer technical support to LCSC’s Blackboard program.
Thomas explained the reasons for the change are strategic, tactical and operational. She said LCSC’s leadership wants to focus on the importance of online education to LCSC’s role in northern Idaho, and also to focus on the contribution of online education to LCSC’s growth. In each of the past three semesters, more than 1,000 students took courses online.
Thomas says by moving Emerich and Hennigan from technology to academics under Provost Tony Fernandez’s organization line highlights the importance of online education within the academic community of the campus. The move also allows for more efficiency and clarity of purpose from the physical proximately and collaboration of instruction support within Community Programs.
Emerich and Hennigan will move into the office space currently occupied by Lewis-Clark Service Corps in Room 56 of the Sam Glenn Complex. In return, the AmeriCorps and Service Learning personnel will move to the Media Services area inside the library. The exchange of offices should take place shortly after July 4.
Thomas emphasized this move was made to follow the organizational structure that would best serve the campus. She said the move includes daily administrative support of instructional tools such as Blackboard as well as Emerich’s and Hennigan’s reporting lines to Community Programs.
Thomas says there are some details still to be worked out with the move, but expects it will go smoothly.
