Fazil and Esparsen exhibitions to be on display at Center

A series of acrylic ink and charcoal images by artist Goran Fazil will be on display starting Friday, Jan. 11, at the Lewis-Clark State College Center for Arts & History, located at 415 Main St. in Lewiston.
Fazil’s work will be on display in Gallery 1 at the Center and his exhibition will run alongside Ray Esparesen’s showing in Gallery II through Feb. 8.
An opening reception for both artists will be held Friday at 5-7 p.m. at the Center. Both artists will speak at around 6 p.m.
Fazil says his life has been shaped by the turmoil and change of civil war in his homeland, the former Yugoslavia. In 1993, Fazil left the region of present-day Bosnia and Herzegovina and escaped to Italy where an artist took him into his studio. Subsequently, Fazil pursued an education in Fine Arts and attended the Fine Art High School in Italy.
He immigrated to the United States and attended Albertson College (now College of Idaho) in Caldwell, and is currently working toward a Master’s degree in Fine Arts at the University of Idaho. His creativity is expressed through a variety of media and explores the many facets of social conflict such as violence, destruction, displacement, racism, warfare.
Esparesen’s two and three-dimensional installation explores the parameters drawn, physically and culturally, when borders are imposed on people, places and cultures. Esparsen’s work examines those boundaries and the resulting targets that permeate relationships, both positive and negative, within the constructs of cross-cultural interactions. Esparsen, whose work has been exhibited locally and internationally, is currently the Professor of Fine Arts at Lewis-Clark State College.
The LCSC Center for Arts & History is open Tuesday through Saturday, 11a.m. – 4: p.m., and admission is free, although donations are encouraged.
