Eclipse of the Moon viewing is Feb. 20

The Department of Natural Science at Lewis-Clark State College, in conjunction with the Lewiston Astronomy Society, invites the general public to a viewing of a total eclipse of the moon early in the evening on Wednesday, Feb. 20 on top of the Spiral Highway on the Lewiston Hill.

The moon will pass through shadow of the earth, causing a dark totality which should result in a beautiful eclipse, showing colors of orange and red.

Eclipse viewing will begin at 5:40 p.m. Wednesday at the scenic views on top of the Spiral Highway. The start of the partial phase of the eclipse will begin at 5:43 p.m. At 7 p.m., the moon will be totally eclipsed, with totality lasting until 7:51 p.m.

There also will be a telescope set up to observe the planet, Saturn. Viewers are encouraged to wear warm clothing and bring chairs to sit on to watch the viewing.
