LCSC women win Frontier Conference title

HELENA, Montana – The Lewis-Clark State College women’s basketball team wrapped up its third straight Frontier Conference regular season title with an impressive 81-63 win over Carroll College on Thursday night.

The win marks the Warriors’ second straight season LCSC has won the conference title outright while it shared the title two years ago.

It's also LCSC'sfifth regular season championship since it joined the conference nine years ago.

LCSC, ranked No. 10 in the NAIA, saw four players in double digits and was able to shutdown No. 12-ranked Carroll College’s dangerous perimeter game.

Carroll senior Jolene Fuzesy, currently ranked No. 1 in the NAIA in three point field goal percentage and second in three point field goals made, scored 18 points on the night, but was not allowed one three pointer.

A 35-26 lead at halftime was created, in part, by an active Warriors’ inside game. Senior Mandy Troutt led the Warriors with eight points in the first half and 21 points in the game. Jade Fulbright and Sadie Short both kicked in 12 points apiece, and Breianna Gaines and Vanessa West followed with 11 and eight points respectively.

Foul trouble kept Carroll busy subbing players in and out and kept the Warriors busy shooting free throws. Katie Hart finished with the game with seven points all off of 7-of-8 free throw shooting.

The win improves Lewis-Clark State to 12-1 in the Conference and 23-4 overall, while the loss drops Carroll to 10-3 and 22-4. Carroll hosts Westminster on Saturday and the winner of this game will decide the second and third places finishes in the Frontier Conference.

LCSC now travels to Billings, Montana to face Rocky Mountain College on Saturday at 1 p.m. Regardless of the outcome of this game the Warriors are the regular season Frontier Conference champions.
