Annual Dogwood Festival runs April 1-30
Events that feature an artesian fair, vintage cars, Pacific Northwest wines and microbrews, and athletic events highlight the lineup for the 24th annual Dogwood Festival, which runs April 1-30 at various locations in the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley.
The festival, which is coordinated by the Lewis-Clark State College Continuing Education & Community Events office, features events for people of all ages and attracts visitors from both the United States and internationally. The American Bus Association recognized the Dogwood Festival as one of the top 100 events of its kind in the nation. The festival is named after the Dogwood Tree, which is in full bloom during the spring.
The Stephen Lyman Memorial Festival of Children’s Art will be held April 1-30 at the LCSC Center for Arts & History, located at 415 Main St. in Lewiston. Elementary school children from Lewiston, Clarkston, and Lapwai will have their art work on exhibit. The two- and three-dimensional work brings together the celebration of spring, dogwoods, and the communities. The work will be exhibited upstairs in the Center, which is open 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.
Two events are scheduled for April 18. The 18th annual Grape & Grain beer and wine tasting event will be held at 6-9 p.m. at the Center for Arts & History. Participants can sample seven Northwest wines and beers and will receive a souvenir glass or mug. Advanced tickets are $20, but go up to $25 at the door. Participants must be at least 21 years old.
Also on April 18, the Twilight 5K Run & Walk will be held at 7 p.m. The course is along the Lewiston levee and awards will be presented to the overall winners in each age group. The registration fee is $15 with a T-shirt or $10 without a shirt prior to April 9. The registration fee goes up to $20 after that date. On the following day, April 19, the annual Dogwood Dunk 3-on-3 basketball tournament will be held in the parking lots at LCSC. The tournament features a double-elimination format with games played to 30 with a 3-point line in effect. There will be T-shirts for all participants and awards for the first place teams in each category. Play begins at 9 a.m. and the registration fee is $60 per team prior to April 1 and $65 after. On April 25, the annual Art Under the Elms, the featured event of the Festival, kicks off on the LCSC campus. The event runs noon-7 p.m. on April 25, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. on April 26, and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on April 27 on the LCSC campus. The location of some booths will change this year because of construction of the new Nursing/Health Sciences Building on campus.
Last year, more than 12,000 visitors attended the event, which features art booths, entertainment, food, and family games and fun. The artist fair includes ceramics, photography, glassware, jewelry, paintings, and other hand-crafted items. The Family Fun Faire will have ring tosses, bowling, basketball hoops, and spin art for free. People can also pay for the bounce house, jousting, pitchburst and boom blaster games.
There will be a food court with a wide variety of items to choose from, and there will be live entertainment at the Student Union Building Amphitheater.
Three-day admission is $2, while admission for LCSC students is $1. Children 6 & Under will be admitted free. No pets are allowed at the event other than service animals.

On April 26 are the 31st annual Seaport River Run, the 18th annual Dogwood Show & Shine, and the 23rd annual Seaport Quilters’ Guild Exhibit.
The Seaport River Run is a 5 or 10 kilometer run/walk that begins along the Clarkston Swallows Park and crosses over to Lewiston and finishes at Hells Gate Start Park. The event begins at 10 a.m. Registration is $15 with a T-shirt or $6 without prior to April 16, and the cost will go up after that date. Registration forms are available at area sporting good stores.
The Show & Shine offers car buffs a look at classic cars, trucks and motorcycles. People who exhibit vehicles in the show will receive a souvenir dash plaque. The event, which runs 10 a.m.-4 p.m., will be held along 6th Street between 7th and 11th Avenues next to the LCSC campus. There is a $10 registration fee to enter a vehicle, which includes two passes to Art Under the Elms. The prizes include a $250 Sponsor’s Choice cash award. Finally, the 23rd annual Festival of Quilts will be held April 26-27 at Clarkston High School. The theme of Quilting Through the Seasons is expected to draw more than 200 quilts accompanied by a Merchant’s Mall, art demonstrations, and door prizes. The event will be held April 26 at 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and April 27 on 10 a.m.-4 p.m. There is a $3 admission charge. E-mail President@Seaportquilters.com for more information.
