LCSC will hold its GED graduation on Friday at 7 p.m.
Lewis-Clark State College will holds its annual General Educational Development (GED) graduation on Friday, May 2, at 7 p.m. in the LCSC Activity Center.
More than 70 students earned their GED certificate through LCSC sites in Craigmont, Grangeville, Kamiah, Kooskia, Lewiston, Moscow, Orofino, Pierce, and Weippe during the 2007-08 academic year.
This ceremony, which is free and open to the public, culminates a rigorous 7˝ -hour battery of exams that measure the essential academic skills and concepts of a traditional high school education. Students who complete the program have demonstrated higher order thinking skills, problem solving ability, and reading and writing skills.
Tests cover the core curriculum areas of writing, social studies, science, literature and the arts, and mathematics. They also measure an adult’s ability to understand and apply information, evaluate, analyze, draw conclusions, solve problems and express ideas and opinions in writing.
Donna Callahan, Director of Adult and Family Education at LCSC, will welcome graduates, their families and friends following the traditional processional and National Anthem. LCSC President Dene Thomas, LCSC Dean of Community Programs Kathy Martin, and State Representative Liz Chavez will provide greetings. The Lewiston Rotary Club will present a $1,000 scholarship to one exceptional GED graduate. Six students will share in giving the commencement address.
Following the commencement ceremony, a reception is planned for graduates, their families and friends.
