Region II ISBDC sets February schedule for workshops
The Region II Idaho Small Business Development Center at Lewis-Clark State College will offer four workshops and will start a 12-week NxLevel online class during the month of February.
The four workshops cover “How to Start a Business Boot Camp”, “Cash Flow and Record Management”, “Web design”, and “Succession Planning/Wills & Trusts (Passing the Torch).”
“How to Start a Business Boot Camp” will be held Feb. 2 at 6-9 p.m. in Room 12 of the Lewis-Clark State College Administration Building. The workshop will teach business feasibility, self-employment assessment, initial market research, start-up expenses, financial feasibility, choosing a business structure, obtaining finances, determining regulations, setting prices, creating marketing materials, and developing a business plan. The fee for the workshop is $10 and Randy Eriksen will be the instructor.
The 12-week NxLevel online class also will start on Feb. 2 and has a fee of $485. This is a business plan writing class and NxLevel provides business skills training, which includes the development of a business plan by participants, hands-on practical guidance in bookkeeping, marketing, financial projections and negotiation with lenders. The class includes videos of instructors and guest speakers and allows participants to network with classmates through an online discussion board. Students also will be able to interact with SBDC counselors.
The workshop on “Web Design” is Feb. 23 at 6-9 p.m. at the LCSC Workforce Training Center computer lab, located at 1920 3rd Ave. North, in Lewiston. The workshop will teach the basics of setting up a web site, how to research and acquire a domain name, and finding a host company. Students will develop a basic web site using Microsoft Expression Web and students should bring a jump drive to save their web site to if they want to use it after the class. Students also are encouraged to bring pictures, graphics on their jump drive to use on the web site. An online photo album also will be developed. The cost of the class is $25 and Brian Stephens will be the instructor.
The final workshop in February is “Succession Planning/Wills & Trusts (Passing the Torch),” which will be held Feb. 25 at 6-9 p.m. in Room 12 of the Administration Building. The workshop will held business owners plan for the new generation of owners who will take their businesses into the future. Planning for such an event is needed 5-10 years before the transfer takes place to maximize the value of the company. The workshop will focus on the legal, tax and business values, as well as financial considerations. Cost of the workshop is $25 and Eriksen is the instructor.
