LCSC Jazz Band wins Hampton Festival award
The Lewis-Clark State College Jazz Band has received commendation as the Outstanding Open Division Band at the 2009 Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival, which wrapped up over the weekend at the University of Idaho.
Performing music by Count Basie, Frank Sinatra, and Benny Carter, the LCSC Jazz Band featured vocalist Kathleen Gemberling and competed on Thursday, Feb. 26.
The LCSC Jazz Band under the direction of Bill Perconti is a nine-time winner of the college band Open Division of the Hampton Festival, including a run of seven consecutive years dating from 2003. The band comprises both student and community membership, and performs a wide variety of traditional and contemporary jazz band music for the campus and the community.
