Parker and Light chosen as Learn and Serve Fellows
Lewis-Clark State College Associate Professor Leanne Parker and Assistant Professor Jenni Light were selected by the Washington Campus Compact as Learn and Serve America Leadership Fellows.
As Fellows, they will receive a $500 stipend as well as a $425 registration to the Continuums of Service Conference in Seattle on April 16-18. In addition, they will participate in a Leadership Fellows retreat this summer and take a leadership role in promoting service-learning in higher education.
Light and Parker were two of 11 faculty selected from the 37 two- and four-year higher education institutions affiliated with Washington Campus Compact. To be considered for the fellowship, Parker and Light had to be nominated by a project supervisor and complete a 250-word statement on how they will advance service-learning at our institution.
Washington Campus Compact is a coalition of college and university presidents in Idaho and Washington who have united to further the civic purposes of higher education by creating academic and co-curricular service opportunities for students to develop the skills and habits of citizenship; encouraging the engagement of faculty in community-based scholarship that addresses societal concerns; and fostering the development of collaborative partnerships among campuses, and with communities.
Washington Campus Compact encourages students to become active, engaged leaders in their communities, furthering the civic and public purposes of higher education and strengthening communities.
