Smoke causes temporary evacuation of KinderCollege
A pump motor connected to the steam system overheated in the Lewis-Clark State College KinderCollege day care building, which caused smoke and temporary evacuation of the building at around 8:20 a.m. on Thursday.
Two Lewiston Fire Department engines responded to the incident and found a small amount of smoke in the building. The smoke was removed and fire department officials gave the OK to re-enter the building less than an hour later.
Some of the children at the KinderCollege already were outside on recess when the Fire Department responded, while KinderCollege, LCSC Physical Plant, and LCSC Security officials helped the remaining children outside and secured the building.
No injuries or structural damage, other than to the pump motor, were reported.
Business will continue as normal on Thursday at the KinderCollege. For parents of children at the day care or anyone else with concerns, they can call KinderCollege at 792-2254
