Garden Girls exhibit and dinner are in September

"Garden Girls", an exhibition celebrating the lives and efforts of two Lewiston women who created the Modie Park Conservancy, will be on display at the Lewis-Clark State College Center for Arts & History starting on Sept. 16.

Because of a fire in March, the Center has temporarily relocated its gallery to 721 7th Ave. in Lewiston.

The exhibition opening will take place Sept. 16 at 5-8 p.m. at the Center. Also, a "Dinner in the Garden" will be held at the Modie Park Conservancy on Sept. 19.

Anabel Osborn and Ruth Modie are features in the exhibit, which includes a critical look at the current social and communal implications through the use of sustainable garden and agricultural practices and their impact on local communities.

The "Garden Girls" exhibition examines the importance of local sustainable growing practices and the link between the community garden project and the community at large, through an artist’s perspective. The exhibition includes photography, original artwork by artists Rachel Eastman and Aaron Johnson and historical pieces, including Osborn's collection of garden hats, tools and historical story boards.

The exhibition runs thru Oct. 3, on Tuesdays thru Saturdays at 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

"Dinner in the Garden" is an evening of art, local food, music, education, friendships and sustainability. The dinner and programming will take place at 4-7 p.m. at the Modie Park Conservancy, located at 1901 8th St. in Lewiston. Music will be played by Marty Lookenbill. Plein air artists will be in the garden during the evening’s festivities as well.

A donation of $15 per person is suggested for the dinner and donations may be made at the opening of the exhibition, at the gallery during normal gallery hours, or at the park the night of the event.

For more information on the exhibit or dinner, contact the Center at 792-2243 or drop by the office.
