Idaho Student Nurses' Assocation meet is at LCSC

The Idaho Student Nurses’ Association will hold their annual conference on Oct. 9-10 at the Williams Conference Center on the campus of Lewis-Clark State College.

The conference is for college nursing students and professionals from across the state and will feature workshops, speakers, tours, games and a Nursing Expo.

The registration fee for the conference is $10 for members and $25 for nonmembers prior to Sept. 18, and $20 and $35, respectively, after Sept. 18.

The conference begins at 3 p.m. on Oct. 9 with registration, a tour of the LCSC new nursing and health science building Sacajawea Hall, and NCLEX Bingo. Also, there will be information on Service Learning Projects that nursing students can do independently or with other students.

At 6 p.m. will be a dinner sponsored by Gritman Medical Center in Moscow. Chaucey Wittinger, President of the ISNA and a student at LCSC, will give the welcome, and Cathy Mabbutt, the Latah County corner, emergency room nurse, and attorney will make the introductory remarks. The keynote speaker will be Jeff Martin, President of the Idaho Hospital Association and CEO/President of Gritman Medical Center. He will discuss the state of health care in Idaho and the role that nurses will play in the future.

Following dinner, the Council of Presidents from ISNAs on other campuses will meet, followed by a meeting of the ISNA Board of Directors.

On Saturday at 9 a.m.-noon, following a continental breakfast sponsored by the LCSC ISNA, a series on one-hour workshops will be held. The topics for the workshops include leadership, conflict and growth, nurse anesthetist, syringe and needle clinic for novices, the joys of nursing, how to get your voice heard, health care on the war front, nursing certifications, and travel nursing.

Following lunch, there will be a nursing expo with booths by employers, graduate schools, vendors, and school associations. At 2 p.m., delegates from each school will meet to discuss business. Following an awards ceremony and the closing at 4 p.m., there will be a dinner sponsored by St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center at 5:30 p.m.

Following dinner at 6 p.m., LCSC senior nursing student Chris Lowe and his band, “The Budwiggers” will perform. This performance is free and open to the public.
