Clemente earns FC honors; v-ball team is at home tonight
Lewis-Clark State College senior outside hitter Anile Clemente has been named the Frontier Conference’s Player of the Week for volleyball, conference officials announced on Tuesday.
Clemente, a 5-foot-11 senior from Sorocaba, Brazil, led the Warriors to a pair of home victories over Montana Western and Montana Tech last week that moved LCSC into first place by a half game in the conference standings.
For the two matches, Clemente averaged 4.71 kills and 2.29 digs per set and also had an attack percentage of .410. She added six service aces and three block assists. In a four-set win over Montana Tech, Clemente tied her career high with 20 kills in the matches.
Clemente is the first player to be honored by the conference this season, but has earned plenty of awards during her three-year career. Last season, she earned America Volleyball Coaches Association NAIA All-America honors and was a second team NAIA All American. She is only the fifth player in program history to earn first-team honors. As well as being the AVCA Region I Player of the Year, she was selected as the Frontier Conference’s Player of the Year and was also selected to the conference’s All-Academic team. She earned third-team All America honors her sophomore year and was a first-team all-conference selection.
Clemente leads this year’s team in kills per set at 3.03 and service aces at 41. She is second in digs.
The Warriors, ranked No. 20 in the NAIA, play three matches this week. Tonight, Oct. 21, LCSC plays host to Walla Walla University at 6 p.m., and then hits the road for matches at the University of Great Falls on Friday and at Montana State-Northern on Saturday.
