Lohrmeyer is named interim provost at LCSC
Rob Lohrmeyer, Dean of Professional-Technical Programs at Lewis-Clark State College, has been named interim provost and vice president for academic affairs at the college starting July 1 when current provost J. Anthony (Tony) Fernandez becomes interim president.
Fernandez made the announcement Wednesday, two days after the Idaho State Board of Education unanimously approved him to be the college's interim president after Dene K. Thomas leaves the position. Thomas has accepted the presidency at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colo., and begins her new post on July 1.
Fernandez will serve as interim president while the state board searches for a permanent replacement. The board said Fernandez will be considered for the post, but didn't set a time frame to have the permanent replacement in office.
Lohrmeyer, who also has been acting Dean of Academic Programs this past year, has been a resident of the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley since 1976.
"Rob has served as a faculty member at LCSC since 1993," Fernandez said. "He is well respected on campus, having served as Dean of Professional Technical Programs since 2002 and most recently as Acting Dean of Academic Programs. He has the temperament, experience, and knowledge to be an effective interim provost. I look forward to working with Rob in his new role."
"LCSC has been an important part of the history and culture of the valley for over 100 years," said Lohrmeyer, 59. "I am excited to be part of the team that will be working with the students, faculty, staff and community to set the direction for the future."
Lohrmeyer earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry from the University of Montana in 1972 and a Masters in Business Education at the University of Idaho in 1994. He also earned a Ph.D. in Adult Education at UI in 2000.
Lohrmeyer came to the valley as a credit officer and branch manager for Farm Credit Services and worked there until 1992. The following year he joined the LCSC faculty in the Business Management program. In 1999, he served as interim Chair of the Office & Business Technology Division for a year, and then in 2002, became Dean for Professional-Technical Programs.
Lohrmeyer is vice chair for the Clearwater Economic Development Association and a member of the Idaho Department of Corrections Education. He's also a board member of Potlatch #1 Federal Credit Union and is a former president of the Lewiston Chamber of Commerce.
Lohrmeyer and his wife Sue, a kindergarten teacher at Highland Elementary in Clarkston, have three grown children.
Fernandez said he plans to fill the dean for Academic Programs on an interim basis, but that decision won't be made until later this summer.
