Dinner in the Garden is Saturday

The annual Dinner in the Garden, sponsored by the Lewis-Clark State College Center for Arts & History, will be held on Saturday, Sept. 18 at 4-7 p.m. in the Modie Park Conservancy's Osborn Community Garden in Lewiston.

The educational event, which is open to the public, features art, local food, and music. The cost of the dinner is by donation to the CAH gallery. Wine and beer also will be sold.

The dinner is picnic style and attendees are encouraged to bring picnic blankets. Dishes are borrowed from the Palouse-Clearwater Environmental Institute's Plate Project, which focuses on low impact table settings to reduce waste and strengthen re-use policies.

The Center for Arts & History also will kick off its own Plate Project during the event. Attendees can donate dishes or silverware to the project and can bring them to the dinner for use and then leave them with CAH employees. The project will allow residents of the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley and surrounding areas to borrow the dishes for events in return for a donation. This year, the CAH is collaborating with Tables of Hope and the LCSC Campus Sustainability Initiative to help raise additional awareness across the region.

"Dinner in the Garden is a LCSC Center for Arts & History project to raise awareness within the community about the importance of sustainability with regard to local and community food sources," CAH Programming and Exhibition Coordinator Ellen Vieth said. "We are raising awareness for the arts and establishing responsible community practices. This is a community service project for the employees of the CAH. The project takes programming into the community with a farm-to-table event. Bringing the arts and the community together one plate at a time."

Sponsors for Dinner in the Garden are PNW, Moscow Food Co-Op, Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Vieth Law Offices, Black Sheep, Twin Cities Radiology, Pacific Steel & Recycling, and Lewiston Morning Tribune.

For more information on the event or to donate, contact the CAH at (208) 792-2243 or visit the office at 415 Main Street in Lewiston. The gallery is open Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Admission is free but donations are accepted.
