Biology students to give health presentations

Lewis-Clark State College students in assistant professor Heather Henson-Ramsey's Biology 320 Epidemiology class will give a series of short seminars on a variety of health issues on Tuesday at 6-9 p.m. in the Williams Conference Center on campus.

The event is free and open to the public and encourages public participation. Refreshments will be served.

The students, who have researched their topics during the Fall semester, will give an approximate 10-minute presentation on a particular topic and then hold a question-and-answer period. All in attendance will then be asked to help evaluate the speaker.

Topics for discussion will include anthrax and biological warfare, the cholera epidemic in Haiti, periodontal disease and associated conditions, whooping cough in modern times, Idaho - a hot spot for sexually transmitted diseases, frustrations in diagnosis of rare diseases - a patient's perspective, antibiotic resistance - a modern epidemic, rubella infections in pregnant women, childhood meningitis, Lyme disease, Necrotizing fasciitis (soft tissue infection), and Ebola.
