New malware notification from Google Search

Please inform your users of a new feature they may experience while performing Google searches. Please consider sending the following to your users:

You may notice a new feature when using Google Search; Google may display a banner across the top of the page if it detects that your computer is infected with a certain type of malware. This banner is triggered by malware that attempts to hijack your connection between your workstation and Google, and is usually intended to capture sensitive data such as usernames and passwords while surfing the internet.

If you see this banner on any of Google’s pages or in any of your Google search results, please treat this as a suspicious or malicious popup and contact your helpdesk immediately. This malware can be, at times, very difficult to detect and can go undetected for quite some time and therefore should be reported immediately even if you do not notice any other signs of infection.

The image in this story is of the banner that will be displayed by Google in the event that it does detect malware. This legitimate alert should not be confused with fake AV alerts since it will only appear when using the Google Search engine. In any case, if you get any alert, you should contact your help desk or IT support.
