Alumni Association awards celebration Is May 2
LEWISTON, Idaho - The Lewis-Clark State College Alumni Association will hold its annual awards celebration on Wednesday, May 2 at the Sage Baking Company, located at 1303 Main St. in Lewiston, starting at 6 p.m.
The event is free and open to the public, but those planning to attend are asked to RSVP to the LCSC Alumni Relations Office at (208) 792-2151 or email alumni@lcsc.edu
Each year the Alumni Associations honors individuals, both LCSC alums and non-alums, who have made an impact at LCSC or in the community.
This year's winners include Judith Wutzke and Scott Hormel as the Alumna and Alumnus of the Year, respectively. These awards are presented to alums who have enriched the lives of others through their generous gifts of time and talent, their involvement with civic, charitable and social causes, and their ability to inspire. Wutzke is owner of …and Books Too! in Clarkston. Hormel is an orthopedic surgeon at Seattle's Orthopedic Physician Associates and the Swedish Orthopedic Institute.
The Marion Shinn Lifelong Achievement Award recognizes alumni who have made outstanding contributions to the college and community through long-term dedication and service. This year's winner is James Heitmann, a retired welder who worked at Potlatch.
Lewiston's Mike Tatko, Regional Business Manager at Avista Corporation, has been chosen for the Aletha Pabst Award, which pays tribute to someone who is not an alumnus but has made significant contributions to Lewis-Clark State College.
The Rising Star Young Alumni Award recognizes significant contributions by an individual in their field of endeavor, whether through professional achievement or community service. The recipient is aged 40 or under and sets an inspirational example for future young alumni. Chie Osawa-Bringman and Jons Brotnov, are the Young Alumna and Alumnus of the Year winners, respectively. Osawa-Bringman is a medical social worker in Tacoma, WA. Brotnov is owner of Mike's Heating & Air Conditioning in Lewiston.
Joy Beckman is the winner of the Excellence in Education Award, which recognizes superior achievement in the field of education. The recipient serves as a role model and sets standards of excellence to which others can aspire. Beckman is a Language Arts teacher at Jenifer Junior High in Lewiston.
Spirit Award for Extraordinary Alumni Service award goes to Karen Evans, Advancement Services Manager at LCSC. The award is for individuals who build pride and spirit on campus and who consistently demonstrates extraordinary loyalty, commitment, dedication and service to Lewis-Clark State College and the community.
LCSC-Coeur d'Alene Alumni of the Year recipients who will be recognized at Coeur d'Alene's commencement ceremonies on Sunday, May 6 include Jame' Davis, Vice President of Membership and Tourism for the Post Falls Chamber of Commerce and Stacie Lechot, Executive Director of the North Idaho AIDS Coalition.
