Summer Concert Series at LCSC kicks off May 10
LEWISTON, Idaho - Lewis-Clark State College hosts its free annual lunch-time summer concert series, starting with a Thursday, May 10, performance from Ellensburg-based band, Better Day. Better Day describes themselves as an all-star cast of Northwest musicians who perform "Americana right with a heap of down-home originals and sing-along, dance-along covers." The May 10 performance takes place from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. on the Centennial Mall with a $6 barbeque lunch provided by Sodexo. LC students, staff, faculty, and community members are encouraged to attend.
On their self-titled album, inspired by the slow pace of rural Eastern Washington life, each member of Better Day shares the duties of singing and songwriting in a laid-back, 'come on over for a BBQ' kind of way. All are capable vocalists, but the power hitter is 26-year-old songstress Leah Shelton. Her soft, sultry vocals give the band a modern edge and a lovely poignancy on a handful of Shelton-penned tunes about the sting of heartbreak. The usual themes of love and loss, food and family, and time and place are offered up with a bluegrass twist.
Future LCSC Summer Concert Series performances are from noon to 1 p.m.
Dates and performers include:
- June 13 Morgan Zearott & Jo Asker - Blues, Folk Rock, Reggae - June 20 Paul Grove - Spanish Acoustic guitar - July 11 Dan Faller - Classic Rock and Original Compositions - July 25 Heller Highwater - Classic - Aug. 8 Mike & Olivia - Original Compositions, Classic Story Songs, Folk
