Stinson named Idaho 2012 Outstanding Nurse Leader
LEWISTON, Idaho - Nurse Leaders of Idaho (NLI) has named Lewis-Clark State College Nursing and Health Sciences Chair and Professor Dr. Lori Stinson "Outstanding Nurse Leader of 2012."
Stinson, PhD, RN, CTN-A, was presented the award at the organization's conference held in Boise in June. The award recognizes an NLI member who is also an experienced leader either in the field of education, practice or administration.
LCSC President J. Anthony (Tony) Fernandez was among those nominating Stinson for the award.
"Dr. Stinson has proven to be an outstanding leader, not only as Chair of the Lewis-Clark State College Division of Nursing and Health Sciences, but also as a leader across the LCSC campus, in the community, and as a nurse leader for the State of Idaho and beyond," Fernandez said in his nomination letter. "In all her roles, she demonstrates an extremely high level of organizational skills and is a highly innovative leader with a record of quality contributions. Under Dr. Stinson's leadership, the LCSC Division of Nursing and Health Sciences has flourished and continues to provide Idaho with well-educated, well-trained nurses."
Stinson has been Chair of Nursing and Health Sciences at LC since 2007. She joined the LCSC faculty in 1984 and served as an Instructor until 1986. Stinson rejoined the LC faculty as an Assistant Professor in 1997. She has also worked as Community Health Nurse with the Suquamish Tribe in Washington; Public Health Nurse with the Seattle-King County Public Health Department; Rural Health Volunteer with the Peace Corps in the Dominican Republic; and an ER and Staff Nurse at Gritman Medical Center in Moscow.
Stinson earned a B.S. with a focus on Nursing from the Washington State University Intercollegiate Center for Nursing in Spokane. She completed her Masters of Nursing at the University of Washington School of Nursing in Seattle and her PhD in Adult Education/Anthropology from the University of Idaho.
Stinson, who lives in Moscow, is a member of several professional organizations, holding various leadership positions including current positions as co-chair of the Idaho Nursing Action Coalition Education Committee, and current President of the Council of Nursing Education Leaders.
NLI is a professional membership organization which "represents the unified voice of nursing leadership throughout Idaho and whose mission is to assure a quality nursing workforce for Idaho's future." The membership includes nurse executives and managers, nursing program directors, deans and professors, as well as leaders from public health, industry, advanced practice and regulation.
