Perseid meteor shower Star Party is Sunday night
LEWISTON, Idaho - Lewis-Clark State College Physics Professor, Dr. Victor Kriss will host a Perseid Meteor Shower Star Party Sunday night, August 12 at the Nez Perce National Historical Park in Spalding.
At 7:30 p.m. in the visitor center, Kriss will talk about the Perseid Meteor Shower and its origin. At 8:00 p.m. there will be a ranger slide show on the Maya Calendar and 2012, answering the question, "Will There be a Perseid Meteor Shower in 2013?" As the sky darkens, everyone will be invited to go outside and view the shooting stars. Kriss encouraged those attending to bring lawn chairs and blankets to sit on and something warm to wear.
Kriss said the actual peak of the Perseid Meteor Shower will be Sunday morning, before the Sun rises, with the best viewing after midnight on the evening of the 11th/12th. Late Saturday night an average of one meteor per minute should be visible. To view the meteors, Kriss said you need to find a dark location away from street lights and then watch anywhere in the sky.
