Multicultural Week activities, International Dinner are week of Oct. 8

The 3rd annual Multicultural Week at Lewis-Clark State College, sponsored by LCSC International Programs, is taking place Monday October 8 - Friday October 12. The public is welcome to attend all the events and they are all free, with the exception of the International Dinner Saturday night.

The week starts off on Monday with Christopher Columbus Day - "Discovering the Mythical Columbus" and "Columbus Day Legacy", hosted by the LCSC Spanish Department. Assistant Professor of Spanish Martin Gibbs will speak from 9 a.m. - 10 a.m. in the Williams Conference Center. This is followed by a Study Away Presentation - "Learn How You Can Study Away in the Place of Your Dreams" from 3 p.m. - 4 p.m. in Sacajawea Hall Room 112, hosted by Study Away at International Programs.

Tuesday features the Native American Friendship Lunch from 12 p.m. - 2 p.m. at Pi’amkinwaas American Indian Center, 11th Avenue & 7th Street, hosted by the LCSC Native American Club. It is a traditional Native American meal offered by members of the Nez Perce Tribe. A Zumba Fitness party, with dancing to music from around the globe takes place from 5 p.m. - 6 p.m. at the LCSC Music Building, 11th Avenue and 7th Street. It is hosted by instructor Kinsey Zellerhoff and Dance Dynamix.

Multicultural Warrior Wednesday and a multicultural student talent show take place Wednesday from 12 p.m. - 2 p.m. at the Student Union Building (SUB) and the SUB Amphitheater. The event is hosted by ASLCSC and the Warrior Entertainment Board. A soccer tournament - "Fight To Be The Multicultural Week Champions" happens from 3 p.m. - 5 p.m., with matches on the Library lawn.

On Thursday, a Living Library from 10:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. at the Student Union Building Solarium will offer an opportunity to check out a human book to gather information about the experiences of someone from a different culture or diverse background. It is hosted by International Programs and the Native American Club. Appetizers from Around the Globe will be enjoyed from 4 p.m. - 6 p.m. at the Williams Conference Center. The LCSC Spanish Club is hosting the event.

The International Dinner, "Global Harvest" is Saturday night at the Williams Conference Center. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and the program will begin at 6:30 p.m. For over 25 years, the International Dinner has enlightened guests, bringing a healthy serving of culture from every part of the globe. The dinner is prepared and hosted by the International Club of LCSC. This year's cuisine will include diverse delicacies from around the world - the Middle East, the Caribbean, Africa, Europe, Asia, and parts in between.

The evening's program will feature music, a fashion show, traditional dances, songs, and other individual performances. There will also be a raffle. A Diversity Mixer will follow dinner, with DJ Duke mixing music from around the world. The mixer is from 10 p.m. - 1 a.m.

Dinner tickets are $18 for adults and $12 for students (college, high school, junior high, grade school, or trade school). Children who sit on their parents' laps, share their parents’ plates, and do not occupy a seat get in for free.

Tickets are for sale at the Information Desk in the Student Union Building or the International Programs Office at Reid Centennial Hall, Room 22. For more information, contact International Programs at 792-2177. If you want to reserve a full table for eight, stop by the International Programs Office. Proceeds from the dinner go toward the International Student Scholarship fund.

Sodexo Food Services is offering a different international menu each day of Multicultural Week, with Cuisine of the Americas on Monday, European Cuisine Tuesday, Island Cuisine Wednesday, Middle Eastern Cuisine Thursday, and Asian Cuisine Friday.
