LCSC hosts over 300 Lewiston 3rd graders for "All Systems Go!"
It used to be called Space Day at Lewis-Clark State College. But now it's "All Systems Go!"
On Friday, November 16 from 9 a.m. - 2:30 p.m., the Williams Conference Center, the Activity Center and the Silverthorne Theater on the LCSC campus will become hands-on science classrooms for 350 Lewiston 3rd graders, as the Division of Natural Sciences and Mathematics (DONSAM) presents activities that range from chemistry magic shows that include exploding balloons, chemical clocks and other surprises, to physics lessons on predicting motion, as students using iPads film a ball being thrown or dropped, then calculate gravity and learn how to predict how objects fall.
About 30 LCSC faculty members and students have volunteered to help out at the event. One of the goals is to present activities that "clarify the idea of a system", which is one of the goals of the Idaho State Science Standards. Another goal is to make connections between LCSC faculty and students and 3rd graders and their teachers in a positive and fun environment.
