2007-08 News
Its been a while since I have put anything up on this, but hopefully I will get better this semester. A lot of things to report. Grades are out and both teams did very well with the men's team GPA just over 3.02 and the women were over 3.62.
We have also had three guys sign for next year. Grant Eldridge out of Clackamas, Oregon, Frank Lagrimanta out of Spirit Lake, Idaho and Jon Dalton out of Deary, Idaho. All three guys will have an impact on the success of the program next year and we are very excited to add them to the family. Should have some additional signings to report in the next few weeks.
Our indoor and outdoor track schedules are tentatively set. Starting to do some track recruiting. Should be interesting with the first year of specifically recruiting for track.
Hope your holidays have been good. We just got back from the ranch. Had a lot of fun sledding on the hill with the girls and going for runs in the snow. The team and I are also working on my survivor application. YEE HAW!!! :)
Also been working on our first summer cross country camp. Should have more info about that in the future.
Sorry for no report after last week's race. I must have been just as tired as the teams. This weekend went very well. You can see my report in the results. Thanks again to all. - Coach LCSC RESULTS
Slow or busy week or so, depends on how you look at it. The team had last weekend off, but I traveled over to Olympia to watch the regional preview meet. Very glad that I did. Got to see the course in racelike conditions, took a lot of pictures, etc... Hopefully will help us be prepared a little better for the regional meet.
In addition, this past weekend a former runner of LCSC, Lisa Paxton, qualified for the Olympic Trials in the Marathon. She ran a 2:45:36 at the St. George Marathon in Utah, which surpasses the "B" standard necessary to run in the trials. This race will be held next April in Boston. WAY TO GO LISA!!!!!
Big race this last weekend in Salem, OREGON. Nice performances from both team. The women finished 7th out of 26 teams and the men 6th out of 27. Good showing all the way around. This meet is usually a good one as the level of competition is about as close as we get all year to what it will be like at nationals (assuming we are fortunate enough to qualify). The women just edged out regional foe eastern oregon, but behind a number of other naia schools that are ranked. However, all were already ranked in front of us and the competition was very close, so I would not expect too many changes in the national polls this week. A similar result for the men except that #7 ranked Concordia of California finished just in front of us, so we will likely move back a little, but not too far as we finished just in front of #9 ranked Eastern Oregon. RESULTS Off this next weekend, then off to Spokane. We will be training through that meet and hope to come back and run fast at our home meet.
Reminder that many of you will or have seen hill run letters. Please send those in and encourage others to do the same. Thank you.
The women had a good weekend in Boise finishing 5th out of 13 teams. The only teams in front of us were Division 1 Boise State, #9 DII Chico State, #5 DII Seattle Pacific and #14 DII CS San Diego. Just behind us was #21 NAIA Albertson College. So a very good quality field. The first time in a number of years that we have run against Idaho State University (DI) and we were fortunate enough to finish in front of them as wel as a large number of other DII programs. Encourging from this race is that I believe we can be much better as Jenny was sick all of last week, Katja has been injured and for everyone this was our first race in three weeks and first of the year at 5K. Some people really stepped up as well and I am very pleased with our team performance. This next week both teams are off to Willamette where the competition will get even tougher and there will be more than twice as many runners. In addition there will be a large number of nationally ranked NAIA, DII and DII schools in the race.
A lot of you out there should be receiving Hill Run letters soon. This is our largest and most important fundraiser of the year, so I hope that you will support whichever runner sent you a letter. If you did not get one, but would like to support someone, let me know (mcollins@lcsc.edu) RESULTS FOR BOISE
Great weekend for the men's team. Sorry it has taken me so long to get something up. Been pretty sick. The men ran very well in Seattle, finishing 2nd in the open race of UW invite. We had 4 guys finish in the top 21 and everyone ran very well. Exctingly, we feel we have a lot of room for improvement. The results of this race can now be seen in the national polls. The men have risen to an ALL TIME HIGH of #4 in the nation. The target on their backs has gotten even bigger. The women are also doing well. They are ranked #15 at this time and race this weekend in Boise after three weeks off. We are a little injured and sick, but hopefully will be able to pull through it. I know that even though we may not be physically ready to go, mentally they are ready to race.
The first of the regular season rankings came out yesterday and good news for both team. The women dropped one spot to #13 in the nation. Feel pretty good about that right now. We have a lot of little injuries and everyone seems to be getting sick at the same time, but should be motivated to run well in the next couple of big meets (Boise and Willamette). The men received their highest ranking in history by moving up two spots to #7 in the country. They race this weekend in Seattle. This should give us a good idea if we are legitimately a top ten team or not.
September 4, 2007 - Results from this weekend. RESULTS A pretty good weekend for the warriors. Both teams were fortunate enough to win each respective race as a team, plus LC runners were the overall individual winners for each race with Jenny Jensen winning on the women's side and Calin Hantau on the men's side. The men packed up things real well with six guys in the top 9 finishers. Hard to compare this race to other races in the past we have done at this distance, but in looking at this course from previous years and how the teams ran there then later, I would make a VERY ROUGH estimate that the men's team this year is about 90 seconds to 2.5 minutes in team time ahead of where it was a year ago. Assuming this is correct, they are currently looking pretty good. We will know much more in a few weeks when we run in Seattle. The women also looked good with a 1, 2 punch up front. A lot of girls getting some of those first race shakes out of the way. Really need to pack together a little better and this team will be pretty good. We race again with the women in three weeks down in Boise, so a lot of time to work on things before then. Some pictures are up from the weekend. Please be advised that I put up the pictures that I am sent. I don't take the pictures, so if there are a lot more pictures of one person or one team it is by chance, not by choice.
August 27, 2007 - It has been almost two weeks since the teams have reported and all is going well. Things always seem hectic (which they are) and I get frazzled at times, but we all made it through quite well. My new people are all dealing with some homesickness, which is to be expected, but handling it well. Everyone is starting to get a little excited about our first meet this week in Walla Walla. We don't have much training under our belts at this point, but it will be fun to see where we are at with the shorter distances to be used this weekend (4k/6k). It looks like everyone has come in with a great summer of conditioning, have bonded together as a team and are united for the year. We survived our first fundraiser of the year this last weekend (Duathlon), and those waiting for results, I will get those up very soon. Friends and families can expect to see a letter from members of the team soon in regards to our largest fundraiser of the year and I thank you in advance for your support. Preseason rankings came out and surprisingly, the women's team was ranked #12 and the men #9. It is a nice compliment, but I do feel that we need to prove ourselves out in the races to earn our rankings. Stay posted, more news to come soon.....
August 13, 2007 - As team reporting day approaches, many new things to report that have been overlooked due to summer. New additions to the team since spring include two new international athletes. Joel Bwambok is transferring from Mt Union College in North Carolina and Moreen Keino will be an incoming freshman from Kericho, Kenya.
May 20, 2007 - Teams continue to excel academically. The men's team had a combined 3.20 GPA for the spring semester and the women had a GPA of 3.36.
May 26, 2007 - Aaron Galbraith is awarded an academic all-american award in outdoor track and field. This marks the 34th all-american award earned by LCSC runners in the last eight years.
