Climate in the Lewiston valley.

Upon moving here from Salt Lake City, one of the things that I have come to enjoy beyond words is the climate here, especially in the winter.  I am not a cold weather fan and prefer to stay outside whenever possible.  Lewiston is a protected community part of the banana belt that follows the Columbia River Basin.  It does snow here (average snowfall for entire year is 2 inches), but it doesn't stay and usually melts within a day.  The nice thing is that you can always go play in the snow if you like because in about 30 minutes in any direction you go up about 2000' in elevation and usually have plenty of snow.

I have provided a graph that I made with information from weather.com.  Keep in mind that a 2-3 degree difference doesn't seem like much, but in the world of weather it is a pretty big deal.  It shows Lewiston's and other cities' average temperature during the winter. You will see based on the mean temperature that Lewiston is the only town that stays above freezing throughout the winter.  This means that when out running you very seldom run into ice because it has all melted off.  It does get cold in Lewiston, but nothing like most of the areas around us.

Although I don't mind running on a treadmill or other indoor options, I would much rather run outside.  I believe it helps to keep people fresh (mentally and physically) and fast.

One Special Note:  You should see that we are the only city with an average temperature throughout the winter that does not go below freezing (32 Degrees)
