Eagle Invite 2001 (Northwest College)
Issaquah, WashingtonIn a meet that was also serving as a preview for our regional championship, the warriors got a chance to test their legs on the same course that they will be running on again in 2 weeks.
The women started the day and came through with great performances and the second week in a row that the average time was under 19 minutes for the first five runners. This was also the first meet that all 10 lady warriors ran under 20 minutes. Tausha led the way with her 3rd PR weekend in a row running the 5k course in 18:10. She was followed by Courtney who went under the 19:00 minute barrior for the first time in 18:51. Rounding out the top five were Emma and Lauren who both finished in 19:01, then Lisa Paxton in 19:05. Katie also PR'd in 19:14 as well as Pam in 19:22. Cristina finished in 19:34, Lisa Panian in 19:37 and Hillary in her first race under 20 minutes in 19:48. The Lady Warriors were still ranked at #13 this past week. however for the past two weeks they have run times comparable with the top 6 or 7 teams in the country. It is obvious that they have improved dramatically since Willamette and that the experience of running there has raised the bar for all of them. The ladies finished in fourth place in this meet. However, all of the teams in front of them are highly ranked national team. Northwest college at #2 in the NAIA, Western Washington number #13 in NCAA D2 and Seattle Pacific at #21 NCAA D2. They also finished ahead of Central Washington that ws #20 NCAA D2 last week.
The men also ran well, finishing just behind Seattle University who has recieved votes for top 25 consideration all season. Joe lead the warriors finishing in 25:50, his first collegiate race under 26 minutes. He was followed closely by Chris and Ben in 26:00 and 26:18. Jeff and Nick Niemeyer rounded out the top 5 for the warriors finishing in 26:59 and 27:10. Finishing 6th and 7th for LC were Nick Rynearson in 27:25 and Paul in 27:32. The men's team has not had a race yet this year where all of the runners have put together good performances at the same time. If they could do this they could catapult themselves into the top 25. They have one chance left to do it and their motivation is high to run well at the regional championship in 2 weeks.
