Congratulations to
Connie Hallen
2009 CSO Employee of the Year
and to all the nominees
| Leilani
Anderson |
She
is always willing to help and considering the amount
of years she has been here, she is very
knowledgeable in several different areas of the
college and its operations. A good example of her
going "beyond the Call of Duty" is that if she is
standing in an office where she can see that
everyone else is busy and the phone is ringing, she
will answer the phone (even though she knows that
she will not be able to answer the question). She
politely will tell the person on the other end that
it will probably be just a minute and ask if they
would like to wait or leave a message. Most people
would not even attempt to answer a phone in an
office that they weren't familiar with.
The extra effort put forth by her includes her
participation in teaching pdt's as well as being an
active member of the pdt committee. She also attends
many recruiting trips with other offices as well as
attending "transfer day."
Leilani is always willing to answer questions & lend
a hand. I have never seen her turn away a student or
staff member when called upon for assistance. She is
trustworthy, knowledgeable and sets an exemplary
example for our other employees.
Leilani has held many of the positions in the
office, therefore she has become our "go-to-gal"
when we need help. She takes on more work when she
has time & puts her won tasks aside when we have
something more pressing.
This is my first year here and part of my duties
include reconciling the budget for the 2 offices. I
cannot count the countless hours Leilani has spent
with me correcting my mistakes & teaching me how not
to make them in the future.
Leilani is
a great asset to LCSC. She is always there to help
and answer questions. She works diligently with the
athletics department figuring transfer gpa's and
advising which classes will transfer. She speaks at
recruiting events.
Leilani stays late to get her work done or to work
with a prospective student. She teaches PDT courses
regarding transfer evaluations. She attends
recruiting events after hours.

...is one of our "behind the scenes" classified
staff. Though her work station is not directly in
the public area, her duties are very important to
the College's Library. A member of the CSO ... has
in the past chaired the Recognition and By-Laws
Committees. Always working for the good of each CSO
member, many of the procedures/events that we
use/have today were instituted during her time on
the committee, i.e., By-Laws.
... exemplifies professionalism in every aspect of
her work as she supervises student staff and works
with other Library and campus staff.
... is dedicated to the success of LCSC's students,
staff and faculty. |
| Charity
Goodell |
Charity is a great advocate to the student
population and to the college. Charity always go
above and beyond with regards to student requests
with the SHIP and is always willing to sit with the
student one-on-one to help them better understand
their policy.
As an employee and coworker she is always willing to
lend a hand and take part in new projects and does
not back down from a challenge. If she has
questions, she will find answers and expand her
connections to other departments through-out the
college.
Charity works hard to put forth a professional
manner and appearance. She is willing to educated
herself to help others and to better the health
services. She takes pride in her job and her
department. |
| Connie
Hallen |
She is an
excellent and hard worker. I often see her after 5
pm still working on important tasks, and she still
has a smile on her face and an ear to listen. She
will easily fix problems and make sure things are
running smoothly in the division. She is easy to
talk to, and makes you feel very welcome in the
office.
She is always very professional with anyone who
enters the office, students, faculty, staff,
visitors. One semester I had a particular distance
learning student that would call weekly (at least)
and was very rude to her and myself in general. She
never let it show that it bothered her on the phone,
and was always completely kind and professional in
her interactions with this individual. It is this
kind of environment we like in our office, set by
her example.
She helps the office run very smoothly. She sends
out reminders of faculty responsibilities and keeps
us all informed. She is at extra events like the
Global Warming Teach In, which were totally
optional. She also will drop everything to help you
in a bind, whether it be a printing job, an errand,
a room assignment, a phone call, whatever it is you
need, Connie treats that like it is of utmost
importance. She also is very collegial, and has
sang in a musical group at several LC functions,
including our division parties and the Christmas
Revels. She has a lot of talent and shares that
with our LC community in a way that everyone can
enjoy. She is in a nutshell, great!
My nominee is particularly good at gently reminding
me and the rest of the division of upcoming
deadlines, and keeping track of when things need to
completed even though it’s not her job. For
example, with book forms she will fill out the
instructor, class, list previous texts, and
generally fill out as much as the form as possible
before sending it on to the instructor saving me a
lot of time even though it’s my responsibility to
get the form completed.
Through implementation of online forms and diligence
in solving problems, my nominee is always ready and
willing to do what needs to be done. Not only that,
she maintains a professional manner and caring
demeanor throughout the day. I’ve seen her in a
deluge of students all nervous and asking
essentially the same question and she answers each
one, always with a caring tone in her voice and
genuine concern.
Outside of work she is the same way toward students
and staff/faculty. Whenever she sees someone she
always takes the time to say hi and visit. She is
always the one at get-togethers that will stay and
help clean up and is usually first there to help set
up. My nominee attends and supports LC community
events especially the arts. Any faculty show or
musical event she attends and always invites others
to join.
Our division
office is an organized, efficient place thanks to
this employee. It’s hard to see how much actually
goes on, how much paperwork gets done and sent off
to the right place, how many people are helped and
how much information is imparted to the correct
party because this employee makes it all look easy.
She reminds me of syllabi and book orders that I
have forgotten and almost everyday, I need help with
some computer or copier or printer bit of work. And
she always kindly helps me. And then I multiply the
work she does for me by all the other folks in the
division, and then add her other duties on to that:
all that paperwork for the division chair, safety
officer, STAR advising organizer and being the first
person that every student, faculty and community
member sees when they walk in our door. It’s no
wonder that, even at 5:30 or even 6:00 pm, I find
her still in the office. A specific example of her
organizational ability is her ability to get
students through STARs with little faculty help,
with lots of computer issues and many students
needing help.
She is incredibly patient, I've never seen her be
short tempered or anxious or unkind to anyone. She
treats everyone, students and employees, as if they
were the most important person. And she always
follows through on a task until it is done. I've
never seen nor heard of her dropping the ball.
Working late, organizing our office, making the
STARs successful, acting as safety person, making
everyone feel special, following through on
everything, never saying that she can't help,
professional....she really deserves an award!
She designs, authors, edits and mails out our
division newsletter. She attends retreats and takes
on full responsibility for food, shelter, and
scheduling. She either attends classes voluntarily,
or self-teaches anything that she believes will
improve her performance in the office. Our division
was the first to go all electronic in book ordering
thanks to her willingness to work with the bookstore
and learn the process. We were one of the first to
electronically register all of our new students
thanks to her efforts. When the registrar's office
need a guinea pig to test out its new on-line grad
checks and work out the kinks, she volunteered to do
the deed.
As but one example, STAR registrations used to be
the campus nemeses. It often took a half-dozen
faculty, the chair, and all of the administrative
assistants to pull one off. She took charge and
came up with folders on each STAR registrant, a
complete list of trouble shooting techniques, so
that now STARS can often be accomplished in under an
hour with only she and a faculty member to do the
deed. When I was division chair, she quickly
realized that not only was I absent-minded, but a
lousy record keeper to boot. She took over my
calendar, with a friendly reminder for each duty I
had to perform that day, and kept copies of
everything I sent out. She could pull up copies of
three year old data sets with the ease of
yesterday's e-mail. It's not just what she does
things; but the grace with which she does them.
She's never to busy to hear out a complaining
faculty member, or to help one to learn to do duties
such as travel documents, grad checks, pay issues,
getting students on work study, and the like, or to
walk a lost student to another building and get them
in with the people they need to see. I only wish I
were better with words to express how valuable and
valued this person is to all of us who work with
her.
When talking
to students or faculty, this employee is incredibly
calm, patient, and encouraging. Students who have
an issue with a fee or a hold on their records or
have a problem with their schedule are often angry
and worked up. She doesn't just help them take care
of the problem; she does it in a way that the
student feels like she cares about them. I watched
her work with a very irate student who could not
register because of an unpaid fee. By the time they
were done, the student no longer felt like everyone
on campus was out to get him. She goes the extra
mile with international students to help them
understand rules and procedures and to help them
find the right office and people.
Gossip can relieve some of the tedium of an office
but it can also be incredibly destructive. She does
not gossip about students or faculty or
administrators or other classified staff. Ever.
She has to do a million things, sometimes all at the
same time. But the office remains calm and a fun
place to be. She has such a positive attitude. She
never makes me feel like I shouldn't be asking her
to do something because she is too busy.
She donates her incredible talents as a musician to
entertain at the Christmas party and at the Natural
Science spring picnic.
She is doing an outstanding job day after day. She
is a very consistent and hardworking employee.
During the last several years I observed and
experienced her valuable assistance to me and the
Mathematics & Sciences tutoring center. Each
semester she assists our tutors to apply for work
study. Because of her help, the majority of our
tutors were awarded the work study grants that
literally saved our department thousands of dollars
each semester. She is an asset to our department and
LCSC.
She has done a lot of extra work for our department
in general and for the Mathematics & Sciences
tutoring center specifically. Last year she designed
a very nice and complete brochure to advertize our
tutoring center. I remember that she stayed and work
after five P.M. to complete that project. She is
really doing way more than 9 to 5 hours of work
every day. By the way, she designed and made these
brochures for all of the principles in our
department.
She is a very nice person. Her outstanding social
skills enable her to work with all of the natural
science faculty and staff. She is very friendly,
very reliable, and does her job as best as possible.
Again, she is an important asset to our department
and LCSC.
She is the
first person that anyone visiting our unit office
will see, whether it is faculty, staff or student.
In this capacity, she is the perfect representative
of the best qualities LCSC embodies. She is
helpful, patient and efficient in helping visitors
with whatever their needs are. She creates an
inviting atmosphere and is remarkably knowledgeable
about all aspects of our unit's operations. When
other unit personnel & faculty are posed a question
they can’t answer, their advice is always “Go see
XXXXX, she’ll know.”
She has highly developed interpersonal skills. She
maintains good working relationships with her
colleagues in the Division and around campus. I
have personally observed her to be extremely
flexible in working with her peers in an effort to
maintain positive working relationships, even under
difficult circumstances. She is always willing to
listen and be present to people in the office, even
if she has other tasks that need her attention. I
very much respect this quality in her.
What makes the above more impressive is that she
handles visitors, faculty & staff so very well while
at the same time executing all of her other job
duties with the highest level of professionalism.
Our unit's office is a high traffic area but I have
the utmost confidence in all aspects of her job
duties. She always follows through on promised
work. She has earned my trust to the highest
degree: if she promises me that something will get
done, I never have to think about it again.
Probably the best example of the above is her
performance during the first week of the semester in
Fall 2008. Our office was under-staffed entering
the semester. The first week of the semester is a
highly stressful time for our office, even with full
staff, yet she calmly managed several minor crises
including lost bookstore orders, a broken copier,
over a dozen late-arriving international students
that were sent to our office for advising and a
myriad of smaller situations that popped up. I
received several comments from our faculty and
students about her grace during difficult situations
and how grateful they all were for her assistance.
She is an ambassador in the truest sense of the
word. Not only does she go "beyond the call of
duty" as noted above, but she recognizes the value
of a collegial campus environment and does
everything in her power to foster it. She is the
first to thank other campus units or support
services for their assistance.
Within the campus unit, the word quality is
synonymous with everything that she does. Every
task, whether it is book orders, I-time management,
IH budgets or special artistic/publicity projects,
is carried out with the same thoughtful attention to
detail and quality. It is evident that she takes
great pride in her work and she always spends the
time necessary to make everything just perfect.
I believe that she represents the best qualities of
Lewis-Clark State College in everything she does.
Everyone that knows her on campus has the highest
respect for her.
At the same time, she never seeks
recognition for her efforts on behalf of the
faculty, staff & students of LCSC. She is extremely
humble. This award would be a very positive public
acknowledge of all the ways in which Lewis-Clark
State College is enriched by this individual.

I
watch this person stay late/come early in order to
see that things are met in timely matters for the
image of the college. In the time that I have worked
in institutions I rarely see someone take such pride
and accuracy in their job. But this person assures
that things are done accurately to the fullest. When
things need to be done in a certain manner, this
person absolutely takes no short cuts or
procrastinates. I feel in a way the college has a
very good image thanks to this person.
This person takes the time to research the job that
needs to be done. There is no second guessing. I
have seen this person spend extra personal time in
either reading or investigating how things need to
be done. This person has always shown me
professionalism and is one to imitate in the way
things should be done. In the short time I have been
here I admire they way they handle the pressures of
their job and still does very well.
This person, to my knowledge, has never won this
award and they have put many yrs of work here. Which
surprises me that they have not been thought of
before. They work with all of the departments and to
have not been recognized of their hard work they
have done for the college in their time here, I feel
is a shame. I do hope that this person receives this
award so that they are aware of the time and
dedication they have done for LCSC. |

This employee steps up to the plate to help us in
many of our community service projects. This year
s/he helped to coordinate the financial piece of the
Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service project hosted
by members in the Boise and Lewiston areas. S/he was
always quick to help and answer any questions from
any of the members to make sure this project had no
financial problems and that all of the AmeriCorps
members were promptly reimbursed for their parts in
this statewide project. This is a very small example
of the assistance she provides through the year.
S/he sets the example for the rest of the staff to
follow and keeps the offices running smoothly in
both Lewiston and Boise. S/he has a great sense of
humor and shares her knowledge readily with all
staff.
S/he has developed and put in place a checks and
balance system for our program that is recognized by
other departments as an excellent example. S/he
communicates with office staff as well as staff
campus wide and follows through on projects. S/he is
always ready to lend a helping hand or assistance
when anyone has questions or concerns. S/he cheers
the college on as well as her department and truly
enjoys her work. Having excellent computer skills
s/he teaches the other staff so the entire staff can
work more efficiently and quickly rather than have
to spend time trying to figure things out and then
do the work.
S/he always arrives early and works steadily
throughout the day. Anytime someone comes in to the
office she greets them with a ready smile and makes
them feel comfortable. We have our offices in an
open area with another department and she graciously
assists visitors that end up in the wrong place.
Other staff look forward to working with him/her and
learning from him/her. S/he is retiring this year
and will be missed by employees from other
departments as well as co-workers. |

Managed department affairs after the retirement of
long term Director and during new Director search.
Worked constantly to improve the departments ability
to deliver quality service to the college and
community without direct supervision. Maintained
consistent and effective communication with college
departments, students and community customers to
make sure service was provided in a effective and
efficient manner. Managed the accounts and schedule
for a grant funded partnership with an out of state
college (Lane) to make sure a new academic program
(Dental Hygiene) was up and running in time for
winter semester. Kept extraordinary records of all
time and expenditures so the college would receive
reimbursement for the project.
Is the single point of contact for a large
non-academic department. Dispatches, schedules and
organizes large diverse crew to provide excellent
service for internal and external customers. Screens
application and hires students and irregular help.
Works with financial aid, payroll and human
resources to ensure proper recording of temporary
time sheets. Provides follow up to customers during
and after work is completed.
Has the best interest of the College in mind at all
times. Treats all staff, customers and students with
respect under often stressful conditions. Is the
sole administrative support for 35 staff members in
4 separate sub-units within the organization.
Manages multiple demands, is highly organized, has a
great sense of humor under stress, knows the college
and the staff and faculty so can answer most
questions quickly and accurately. Is dependable and
puts in 110% effort as a matter of course. Is
willing to fill in where needed and work extra in
case of emergency. Willing to learn new things and
has embraced change with enthusiasm.
Always goes out of her way
to help others, and works along beside us physically
Always gets right on whatever is requested from us
on computers. |
| Jody
Neuberger |
Jody continues to go to great lengths for students,
staff, and faculty. It is amazing to watch her in
action. She never questions going further to ensure
the answers and processes are followed through. Jody
will contact NIC community college to verify
credits/transcripts in route and more to make sure
the students needs are assured.
Jody has an ability to bridge gaps between students
that might exist. It is her easy going and overall
professionalism that allows students to feel
comfortable while maintaining an efficiency
standard.
In order to provide outstanding service to LC-CDA
students, Jody has stayed after the 5:00 PM closing
time when a student needs the extra 15 minutes after
work. It is this commitment and understanding to our
non-traditional students that makes Jody an
exceptional employee and co-worker.
This LCSC employee listens to the concerns of
students and faculty, asks relevant, probing
questions to accurately access the situation, then
immediately goes to work finding solutions to the
varied issues dropped at her door.
She also has the amazing ability to foresee
potential problems and provide assistance to
students and faculty in preventing potential
problems with enrollment, registration, book orders,
and classroom facilities issues, to name a few.
This LCSC employee has an incredible memory for
student's names, individual circumstances, and
needs. She approaches every student with care, humor
and magnificent competence. Her extraordinary
ability to approach a situation from several angles
until she achieves a solution is remarkable. She
uses these same qualities to ease the burden on
faculty who may be stumped on how to solve a
particular issue.
She makes it a point to learn the functions of other
college divisions so she can provide the best,
current resources to students and faculty.
One of my students withdrew from LCSC in her senior
year to take a full-time job for financial reasons.
Her employer promised her a 3-year contract. After 6
months, the employment contract was cut, due to the
economy. The student returned to our LCSC classified
staff employee who immediately set to work getting
the student re-enrolled.
The timing of this return put the student at a late
start in the semester. After the student tried to
enroll in classes in 3 other institutions, and was
caught up in red tape, this LCSC employee was able
to help the student re-enroll in LCSC in 1 day.
This employee approaches her work cheerfully and
with a high degree of competence. She continually
strives to improve her skills to provide the best
possible service to students, faculty and staff. She
is an extraordinary representative of LCSC. Please
give her your most serious consideration for this
well deserved recognition.
She is the
first person that the public sees as they come to
our office. She is always pleasant, patient, and
helpful. She never leaves a person without the
information they came to get. If she does not have
it, she tracks it down immediately.
Any time you are the front line with the public
there are bound to be persons who are challenging.
She is always respectful and helpful with any and
all she comes into contact with.
I rarely see her sit still for a moment when she is
not answering the phone, updating student files,
completing projects for her administrator, and
answering all of faculty's questions with what seems
like boundless energy, enthusiasm, and grace.

| Lawrence
Norris |
I
am proud to nominate Lawrence Norris for the
Classified Employee of the Year. Lawrence continues
to impress me with his professional manner,
dedication, and confidence, which he exhibits in all
aspects of his responsibilities at LCSC. He is an
asset to the College. Lawrence strives to provide a
high degree of quality in his work and the campus
community has counted on this quality. I have been
involved in many conversations where LCSC colleagues
have expressed gratitude for Lawrence’s diligence in
assisting them in their endeavors at LCSC. He is a
person who is motivated to raise his standards,
values and expectations as he continues to grow in
his knowledge of the College. This is the type of
person who should wear the title Classified Employee
of the Year. Thank you.
Lawrence is the hardest working man on campus!
He is always trying to help people.
Dedication.
He has
worked many weekends to make sure events in the
theater are successful.
He is always ready to help LCSC faculty and staff as
well as community members.
I consider him to be an important member of the LCSC
staff.

| Amanda
Schacher |
She
works on many CSO committees and volunteers her time
for all cso fundraisers. She works daily to improve
the service provided to the campus by her
department. Her department is participating in the
"spirit week".
She hires many foreign students and works above and
beyond in teaching them the job and making them
comfortable in a new environment and is interested
in theirs lives and stories. She strives to make her
department efficient and is their to help all who
enter her workplace.
She is friendly, outgoing and has a smile for
everyone.
S/he is always thinking of ways to improve student,
faculty and staff services in her department. S/he
was on the "spiffing up committee" in her/his
department and proposed several of the "spiffing up
ideas" that were implemented to make the area s/he
in more appealing for everyone on campus. S/he works
hard to make sure that the department is clean and
tidy. Her/his student workers are well trained by
her to meet those entering the department. S/he
created and maintains an awesome training manual for
her/his student workers and at the beginning of the
fall season has a student staff meeting on customer
service and security. S/he is always calm and
courteous when dealing with individuals who may be
frustrated and need extra help. S/he always meets
every challenge with a smile and a positive
attitude.
Beyond doing her/his regular job s/he has been very
active in CSO promoting not only CSO, but also the
campus. S/he has served on several CSO committees
and even chaired a committee. Even when s/he isn't
on the CSO committee s/he will help at the
fundraising events if s/he knows that they need an
extra hand. I have worked with her/him on several
committees and also on special projects in the
department. S/he is outstanding to work with often
coming up with ideas to improve the quality of the
project. One of her/his outstanding features is
giving credit where credit is due.
I can't think of a better individual to be named CSO
Employee of the Year!!

| Joanne

She
takes the time to give extraordinary customer
service. Will research customers questions and
answer them rather than transferring them all over
campus.
She willingly jumps in to help others in the office.
Always treats customers, students, and staff with
respect. Always has a smile on her face and
encourages others to go above and beyond. She sets
the standard for customer service!
She will help anyone! Whether it is a computer
problem, refund question or even looking something
up in the phone book for a student.

| Vikki
Swift |
Without an HR director, this individual has taken on
additional workload, duties, and responsibilities in
an attempt to maintain integrity and service to the
campus. There has been a steep and swift learning
curve with service and quality as a goal.
During recent budget cutbacks that forced
elimination of 12 positions, confidentiality,
compassion and support to the individuals impacted
was provided under challenging and difficult
situations. Information outlining procedures that
was needed for administrators to make decisions was
handled quickly and thoroughly. A professional
demeanor was demonstrated throughout the process.
This individual is an active participant with events
on campus and volunteers to assist with a variety of
activities. She does more than is required for the
job; she represents her department and the
institution well without complaining.
This person has taken charge of the department and
is been doing an excellent job.
Always ready to assist and explain, with a smile,
whatever it is you need to know about.
This person has a very positive and compassionate
attitude regardless of what of what the situation
is.

| Ellen
Thompson |
This person is always willing to help out with
various projects on campus and with CSO. They spend
a lot of time to help out the CSO members. |
| Billie
Tribitt |
This admin assistant has been the "go-to" person for
countless people on campus for many years, when they
need information and/or help. She is knowledgeable
in all aspects of campus procedures and policies and
is always willing to interrupt her busy day to offer
assistance. She has been available to me personally
many, many times when I have had questions regarding
anything from a procedural question to computer
problems.
This
person is devoted to LCSC and its mission. She is
professional, courteous, and takes a great deal of
pride in doing her job well. Her position requires
her to have a much broader knowledge base of the
college than most admin assistant assignments. She
also has to maintain a thorough understanding of
state board procedures and policies.
This long-time employee is in charge of the awards
reception each year and obviously takes a real
interest and pleasure in seeing faculty and staff
awarded for their hard work. She knows practically
everyone on campus, and has a reputation for her
sense of humor and quick wit. She is a kind, caring
individual who is very deserving of the Classified
Staff of the Year award. |
| Andy
Tuschhoff |
Everything he does looks very professional -- he is
extremely artistic and has a good eye for what looks
nice on a poster or flyer. Excellent ideas and
suggestions.
He has personally helped me to learn many of the ins
and outs of advertising and creating visually
creative and eye-catching posters. He never loses
his patience or his cool.
He is always able to put out a quality product in a
short amount of time, if necessary, and never
complains about being rushed. His patience is
amazing. I've heard these same comments from others
on campus... everyone thinks he's great! |
| Vana
Vernon |
Vana is always willing to help with issues that
arise that involve faculty or students within the
Humanities Division. Also she has great
institutional knowledge. She is genuinely concerned
about student problems in her division and she
assists to resolve them when possible.
When I call she remembers the issues and she follows
up on issues if I let them linger. She conveys
messages and is aware of issues her division chair
and I are in discussion about.
Vana is a joy to work with, she has a great sense of
humor and someone I would consider a friend and a
colleague. |
| Janet
Wetmore |
She
is a person who is always interested in helping
students, faculty and her fellow colleagues in
attaining their goals.
She is always available throughout the day. She is
present well before the normal day starts and is
usually their after the normal days end.
She works tirelessly to help promote the programs of
the of the division. Responding to questions for the
students or referring them to faculty. She is in the
office many weekends to complete tasks.
Because our division is in session throughout the
year, including summer she works tirelessly to help
promote the smooth operation of the programs. She is
always willing to help no matter the circumstances.
She is an outstanding promoter of the college! |
