Classified Staff Organization Meeting
February 13, 2002
The meeting was called to
order by Karen Evans at 3:10 p.m.
The minutes from the December
4, 2001 meeting were approved.
Dawn Byers reported that the
Employee Recognition committee is organizing a silent auction with items
donated from area businesses. The
auction is planned for the first week in March and will be held in the
SUB. The money earned from the auction
will be used to provide lunch for all Classified Staff this spring.
Karen Evans discussed the President’s
announcement that no money awards will be given this year because of the budget
cuts. It was decided that Karen would
send an email to all classified staff asking for a vote of whether we should go
ahead and have the classified staff of the year award without a money award or
not have the award at all this year.
Janell Miller announced that
the Campus Service/Employee Welfare committee collected $1,480 for Santa’s
Helpers this year. Gifts and food were
purchased for 11 families which included 32 children. A decision was made by the committee that a referral process needs
to be developed for next year.
Dawn Byers presented the
idea of having computer training sponsored by CSO available to all classified
staff. The training would be offered once
during each semester with a different topic at each offering. The topics suggested are beginning and intermediate
Word, beginning and intermediate Excel, Access, and Powerpoint. The class would be offered in a three hour
block on a Friday. There would be a
class during the morning and another one in the afternoon. The same topic could be taught during each
of the blocks if there is enough interest or different subjects in each of the
time periods. There will not be a charge
for the class but a book will be required and it will cost about $20. Please email, Karen Evans, Dawn Byers, Patty
Leonard, or Sharon Auer with the class subjects you would like to attend. It was decided that Karen would include a
note about the available training when she sends her email so that all of the
classified staff members will be aware of the classes to be offered.
Karen Evans discussed the
reorganization committee and invited the group to the next meeting which will
be held in Sub 143 on Friday, February 15.
Karen Evans distributed a
copy of the evaluation form and discussed the request that an initiative
category be added to the form. After a
brief discussion it was decided that the initiative category will be added to
the evaluation form with the following description: Performs work assignments in a self-motivated manner and offers/applies
new and different ideas to improve department operations.
Patty Leonard will chair the
nominating committee for 2002-2003 CSO officers. Denise Harris, Vana Vernon, Jennifer Weeks, and Sharon Auer volunteered
to serve on the nominating committee.
Patty requested that anyone interested in being a nominee for an office
or would like to nominate someone please contact one of the committee members.
LCSC will be offering an early
retirement program to employees. Those
that are eligible will be receiving a letter notifying them that they qualify
and what the procedures are for the early retirement program.
Karen Evans announced that
our legislative representatives will be on campus on Saturday, February
16. This is your chance to voice your
concerns over the current trend in the state legislature.
Jennifer Weeks announced
that the Professional/Technical divisions hosted an open house for
approximately 700 high school students on Tuesday, February 12.
As there was no other
business the meeting was adjourned at 3:40 p.m.
The next CSO meeting will be
held on April 18, 3:00 p.m. in the Clearwater room.
Respectfully submitted,
