Approval of Minutes:  The minutes of the December 3, 2002 meeting were approved.

Committee Updates:

Campus Service/Employee Welfare

Laura Wilson reported for Janell Miller that $1690.73 was collected through joint efforts of the CSO, Student Government, and Santa’s Helpers.  Twelve families, with a total of forty-two children, and fifteen adults from an assisted care facility received holiday assistance.  A total of $1740.48 was spent.  The additional $49.75 spent was given from the ASLCSC contingency emergency fund.  Thank you to all who gave to this worthy cause.

Recognition Committee

Patty Leonard reporting for Laura Moyer announced the CSO’s end-of-the-year luncheon, meeting, and election of officers, is April 17, noon to 2:00 p.m. at the Center for Arts and History.  The luncheon is catered by Julie Hartwig.  To assist the limited parking concerns, the Physical Plant has donated two 15-passengar vans to transport classified staff to and from the luncheon.  President Dene Thomas will encourage campus supervisors to support classified staff in their efforts to attend the luncheon.

Election of next year’s officers will be held during the luncheon.  To nominate someone or if you would like to run for one of the positions, chair elect, recording secretary, or web secretary, call Dawn Byers, Jennifer Weeks, Vikki Swift, or Sharon Auer.

The Silent Auction, the CSO Recognition Committee’s fundraiser, is February 27 and 28 in the SUB.  Some great items have been donated for the auction.  If you know of someone who or if you would like to donate items for the auction, contact Laura Moyer at extension 2295.

The nomination and selection of Classified Staff of the Year will begin after the April 17th election of CSO officers.  Julie Crea is setting up the on-line nomination and voting program.  The winner of the Classified Staff of the Year Award will be announced at the faculty/staff recognition social May 8.

Update on Professional Development Day

Patty explained the Professional Development Day is April 25 and is sponsored by the CSO and Professional Staff Organization.  The cost to attend for LCSC staff and students is $20.  For more information and to register, check out the web site:  http://www.lcsc.edu/profdevday.  Julie Crea developed the website and has included the day’s agenda and session overviews.  If you are interested in serving on a committee or helping with Professional Development Day, please contact Patty Leonard, ext. 2325.  Several invitation postcards have been handed out.  Dawn Byers has created a mailing list and approximately 300 postcards will be mailed early in March.

By-laws voting results/comments:

Sharon Auer reported forty-five voting responses were received.  All changes to the by-laws passed; however the CSO name change vote was so close, the committee felt we should review the choices and give everyone another opportunity to suggest alternative names and vote again in April. It was moved and seconded to obtain organization name suggestions from the CSO members.  The suggestions will be voted on at the April meeting. The ballot read: Change the name of the Classified Staff Organization to include the word professional (i.e.: Professional Classified Organization).  Comments received indicated by using the word professional in our title we could be confused with the Professional (Exempt) Staff Organization.  Karen Evans suggested Classified Support Staff which would include all positions on the classified staff register.   If you have suggestions, please email them to Sharon Auer or Patty Leonard.

New Classified Staff:  Vikki Swift gave us a list of people who are new hires or received promotions and/or transfers.  Dawn McCarver, Community Programs, new title:  Administrative Assistant 1; Debbie Morris, Community Programs, new title:  Interim Office Specialist 2; Brooke Cushman, Athletics, new position: Administrative Assistant 1; Leslie Henriod, Media Services, new position: Customer Service Rep 2; Deb Riggs, Media Services, new position:  Customer Service Rep 2.  Michael Sanchez, Physical Plant, Custodian was hired to replace Rebecca Whited who retired.  Ellen Thompson, Grants & Contracts, Office Specialist 2 (temp position) and Leslie Sellers, Registrar, reclassified as Administrative Assistant 1.

Performance Evaluations form for classified staff are the same as they were last year, stated Vikki Swift. Only difference is they are due on the anniversary date of hire for the position you are in now.  Lindsey from HR will let each supervisor know when evaluations are due for each of their classified staff.  The evaluations are on HR’s webpage.

Staff Computer Classes:

Dawn Byers received suggestions for classes on Excel and Word (set tabs, mail merge, etc.).  The sessions will be short (2 hours).  Dawn has set aside March 28 and April 11, starting at 9:00 a.m.. Both dates are on Friday, but if that does not work for you, let her know.  Let Dawn know if you’re interested in classes and what software you’d like more information about.  Some suggestions:  Outlook, FrontPage??  Since classes fill fast, Classified Staff members will have priority over Professional Staff member.
