Luncheon/Meeting Minutes

The luncheon meeting was called to order by Patty Leonard. The luncheon was held at the Center for Arts & History.  All who attended send thanks to Julie Hartwig who catered the delicious luncheon.

Chet Herbst, Director of Institutional Research & Assessment, was our guest speaker and gave us an update on the LCSC Emergency Plan.

The minutes of the February 18, 2003 meeting were approved.

Patty Leonard expressed her thanks and appreciation to all CSO members, the Employee Recognition, Campus Service/Employee Welfare, and the CSO executive committees.  Patty has enjoyed her year as Chair of the Classified Staff Organization.  I know I speak for all of us when I say, “Thank you, Patty, you’ve done an excellent job representing the CSO of LCSC.  We appreciate you and the time and effort you gave and continue to give.”

Janell Miller reported before Christmas the Campus Service/Employee Welfare worked with ASLCSC and Santa’s Helper and collected donations of $1690 which helped 12 families including 42 children.

Laura Moyer, chair of the Recognition Committee thanked her committee.  She reported both the Flea Market last September and the Silent Auction in February were very successful.  We earned $875 from the Silent Auction.  Judy Dingman was recognized for twenty years at LCSC.  A gift was presented to Patty Leonard in appreciation of her service as chair of CSO this past year.

Nomination for Classified Staff of the Year will be open April 21-25.  April 28 to noon, May 2 will be your opportunity to vote for the Classified Staff of the Year.  The winner will be announced May 8th at the Faculty/Staff Appreciation Social.

Friday, April 25 is Professional Development Day.  Early registration count is 106.  We have many gifts and door prizes that were donated by Horizon Air, Costco, Community Programs, and several other businesses.  CSO members are encouraged to attend.

Dawn Byers will give half-day computer training classes for Excel and Microsoft Word after May 16.  Let Dawn know if you have questions concerning either of the above software programs or if you have questions concerning other programs.

Election of 2003-04 CSO officers was held.  The nomination committee received names for office positions.  Our by-laws do not have a limit to how many may run for a position; nor is there a provision about being nominated for more than one position.  We may want to look at these issues and add an amendment to limit a person from running for more than one office.  This year one person was nominated for two positions.

Chair Elect went to Janell Miller.  Doris Miles was also nominated.  Vikki Swift was voted in as Recording Secretary.  Other candidates were: Chantel Black, Shannon Casteel, Laurie Trieb, and Alea Wassmuth.  Julie Crea is the Web Secretary.  Others who ran for that office were Doris Miles and Jennifer Weeks.  Dawn Byers advances from chair elect to chair person for 2003-04.  The new officers take office July 1, 2003.

Vikki from Human Resources stated Patti Aram’s position in Residence Life has been updated to a classified position -- Office Specialist I.  Patti has worked in Residence Life for a year and a half.

Department News

Patty Leonard reviewed the CSO chair’s term in office.  CSO members agreed to keep the term at one year as chairperson.  Being the chairperson involves three year; one each as chair elect, chair, and then past chair.  We also voted on the CSO name change.  The majority voted to keep the name, Classified Staff Organization.

Tracy Waffle announced Admission applications are up 20 percent.

Provost Rita Morris’ last day is May 16.  Candidates for the Provost position are on campus this week and next.

The Employee Appreciation social is May 8, 4pm at the Williams Conference Center.

Respectfully submitted by

Judy Dingman, CSO Recording Secretary
